Each NC State student must complete the General Education Program (GEP) requirements. These courses are designed to offer graduates the opportunity to experience diverse and integrative disciplinary perspectives.

University policy allows students to enroll in a maximum of 17 credit hours per fall and spring term, and a maximum of 14 credit hours per summer term (14 credit hours for summer A, B, C, and D combined).
*The “Gordon Rule” (State Rule 6A-10.30) applies to students who first enrolled in any college or university after October 1982. The rule requires students to complete four courses (12 credit hours) of writing and two courses (six credit hours) of mathematics at the level of college algebra or higher.

Some departments have established graduation requirements of a grade point average of 2.000 on all courses attempted in the major at NC State or a minimum letter grade requirement in some or all major courses.
