Maori lived in a pa, a fortress or fortified village surround by a stockade.
There are 3 classes of Maori, the ariki class (royality), the commoner and the slave.
Depending on where they lived Maori used a variety of methods to cook their food, celebrations food was prepared in a hangi (underground), they used steaming methods if they lived in the thermal regions, food was also smoked.
During this dance the Maori would wave weapons, stick out their tongues, bulge out their eyes, wave weapons, and grunt. This dance was very important, the tribal elders would watch it and if the haka was not performed correctly it could be considered a bad omen for the upcoming war.
Commoners were children from a marriage between an aristocract and a slave. Men of the commoner class would more than likely only have one wife. Maori were reluctant to call themselves commoners and would proudly claim descent from some noble ancestor.
