If you are a first semester student, and haven’t attended any classes, please contact the Admissions Office to withdraw at 607-436-3009. Voluntary withdrawals should be pursued if a student is transferring to another college, will be absent for more than one year, or has decided not to continue his/her education at Oneonta.
Undergraduate students who are in their last year of resident work at Oneonta, who have completed 90 or more semester hours, who have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and a GPA of 3.2 in their major may take up to two graduate courses for graduate credit. Undertaking graduate-level work must not delay completion of undergraduate degree requirements.
Credits transfer, but only grades earned at SUNY Oneonta are used in computing the Oneonta grade point average. Credit will be granted to a maximum of 75 s.h. when earned grades/scores meet the minimum standards: Traditional Courses: Credit will be granted for courses with passing grades (P; D- or higher).
The priority of auditors shall be as follows: SUNY Oneonta students; SUNY Oneonta employees; others. A $50.00 course audit fee will be charged for each course audited. Those exempted from the course audit fee are SUNY Oneonta employees, currently enrolled SUNY Oneonta students, and persons age 55 and over. Course audit fees are not refundable.
Contact the registrar's office to withdraw. If online withdrawal isn't an option, you will have to speak to someone. Go in person to the registrar's office to get a class withdrawal sheet. Some institutions also accept withdrawals through email.
“A drop from the course is usually done early in the semester and has no impact on the student's grade, GPA or transcript,” Croskey says. However, students should be very aware of deadlines, financial aid requirements and course timelines before dropping a class.

When a class is dropped, the grades do not appear on the transcript of the student. The whole class is removed. In a withdrawal, the grades appear as “WF” or “WP” on the transcript of the student.
Dropping a class is much better for your GPA than failing a class or getting a C or D in it is because a dropped class does not affect your grade point average. Dropping a class may also raise your GPA because it can allow you to spend more time on other classes and raise your grades in them.
Federal regulations require you to repay a portion of financial aid funds if you withdraw from all classes before satisfying the 60 percent completion rule for the enrollment term. (See the current 60 percent dates for the financial aid award year.)
There are two monetary issues to consider when thinking about withdrawing from a class, including the impact on: Your financial aid: Receiving financial aid often requires that you earn a certain number of credits each quarter or semester. If you withdraw from a class, you may face an extra charge or fee.
Withdrawing from a class means that the class will still show up on your transcript, but in place of a letter grade, you'll see a W. While this class doesn't affect your grade, it will still follow you through your academic career, so you should use your withdrawals wisely.
Sadly, in academia, there's also the word “Withdraw.” Withdrawing means you drop a class after the allowed add/drop period ends. You won't receive a grade for the class, but a “W” will show up on your transcript, indicating that you were not doing well in the course and essentially quit the class.
Students are expected to vacate their residence hall room within 48 hours of submission of their withdrawal application. If you are not earning credit for courses at SUNY Oneonta, your residence hall contract is not in effect for that semester.
Fully refundable before the first day of classes. On and after the first day of classes, pro-rated the same as tuition refunds for the first four weeks of school only.
Beginning Fall 2015, the deadlines for applying for readmission are as follows: Applications for Fall due June 1. Applications for Spring due October 1. Applications for Summer due April 2 – only available to those students who can complete their degree requirements in the summer of readmission.
All applicants for readmission are reviewed by the college Committee on Student Progress and Status.
Note: Any student enrolled in courses after the last day to withdraw will be committed to each of his/her courses and will receive academic grades (not "W's").
Add/drop is limited to the first five (5) class days of each semester. During this time students may use the world wide web to add and drop courses.* Refer to the "Key Dates and Deadlines" for information on half and mini semester courses.
Students dropping their entire course load may not use the Add /Drop form to do so. Degree seeking students need to process a Voluntary Withdrawal Form with the Student Development Office. Non-degree students need to report withdrawals to the Office of Continuing Education.
Note: Any student who is not registered for a course after the last day to add will not receive credit or a grade for that course.
Withdrawal rules will be applied on the day that the add/drop form is processed with the Registrar's office. No withdrawals will be processed after the deadline to withdraw from a course. Refer to the "Key Dates and Deadlines" for the withdrawal deadlines for all parts of term.
If you withdraw prior to the end of the term, the unearned portion of your aid must be returned. Example: if you withdraw on the 10th day of a 100 day semester, you will be eligible to keep only 10% of your aid, and must return the other 90%.
When a student drops a class (es) which results in less than full time status or is attending part time and drops a class (es) the individual courses are subject to the tuition liability below, based on the date of withdrawal.
When a student withdraws from college after the start of a semester, the policy for grades assigned to courses for which s/he is registered is the same as the course withdrawal policy. Students must indicate the last day of class attendance on the withdrawal application.
When a student withdraws from college, s/he is entitled to obtain refunds of amounts paid as indicated by the Office of Student Accounts. Students who are withdrawing from college must officially clear all records and obligations. Any uncleared obligations may result in a “hold” being placed on a student’s record.
A student must have successfully completed one full semester’s work at Oneonta to be eligible for this option.
NYS Public Health Law 2165 - proof of immunization against measles, mumps, and rubella. Proof of vaccine status consists of two doses of live measles vaccine administered after 12 months of age and after 1/1/1957; one dose of live mumps vaccine and one dose of live rubella vaccine both administered after 12 months of age. NYS Public Health Law 2167 - provide each student with information about meningococcal disease and prevention strategies and also requires students to provide the Health Center with vaccination date or a record declining the vaccination. The College cannot permit students to attend more than 30 days without complying with these laws.
For a course initially taken prior to Fall 1994 and subsequently repeated, the transcript will reflect both courses and grades; both grades will be calculated in the grade point average.
The appropriate tuition rate is determined by a combination of student status and course level.
If you withdraw on or after the first day of classes, you will have liability (i.e. If you have paid, your refund will be reduced. If you have not paid, you owe the college.) On or after the first day of class of any course, you are liable for the College Fee of $1.70 per hour.

Non-degree students are those who are interested in taking courses for personal or professional enrichment. Non-degree students must apply for admission through the Continuing Education Office. Students may not apply for non-degree status if they have previously been a matriculated student at the College at Oneonta.
To be eligible for an academic leave, the student must be matriculated, have completed at least one semester at the College, and have at least a 2.00 cumulative GPA.
Students are cautioned that admission to a specific curriculum may be dependent upon additional criteria such as availability of classroom space, sequence of courses offered, and a grade point average (GPA) acceptable to the academic department. Continuing students must be in an approved major, with an assigned faculty advisor, before they have completed 56 s.h. toward a degree (including accepted transfer credits). Students majoring in one of the teacher education fields must be properly enrolled and have completed necessary requirements for entry into the methods sequence.
To be eligible for honors designations at graduation, SUNY Oneonta students must complete 45 A-E graded semester hours in residency and earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. The three categories of honors designations are:
Copies of student transcripts sent from colleges previously attended become the property of SUNY Oneonta. They are used for admissions decisions and transfer evaluations. Students are advised to retain their own copies of academic work taken prior to their admission. The Registrar's Office cannot transmit academic records from another institution in a secondary manner.
Withdrawals from individual courses: The deadline for withdrawing from a semester-length course is one week after the published mid-semester date. A "W" will appear on the transcript. After the above date no individual course withdrawals will be permitted; students are committed to each of their courses for the remainder of the semester and will receive grades in them. Equivalent dates apply to mini-courses and half-semester courses.
All newly matriculated students are required to participate in orientation prior to their first semester at the College. During this orientation, students will have opportunities to review and adjust their course schedules and/or degree plans with advisors.
Students may not repeat a course using the Pass/Fail grading option, a course challenge, or with an individual course enrollment registration. Students may not use transfer courses to replace a grade at SUNY Oneonta. Students will be permitted a maximum of one repeat per course.
The official record for all students enrolled in advanced degree programs or as non-degree graduate students of SUNY Oneonta is the graduate transcript, which provides a complete record of all graduate academic work attempted. Any undergraduate course work taken will appear on a separate undergraduate transcript. Note: when a student requests a transcript, all work completed at Oneonta (graduate and undergraduate) is sent. Students may not request that only a graduate transcript be sent.
Graduates of education programs who are applying for teacher certification or school counselor certification must complete the on-line Teacher's Certification Application which can be accessed at www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert . In order for the College to recommend program graduates for certification each student must complete and return the College's Release Authorization for Teacher Certification Recommendation with their diploma application. This form is available online. Students applying for permanent/professional certification may be required to submit additional evidence of qualifications as defined by the State Education Department regulations. The College can recommend students for certification only in the area of the master's degree and only at the time the degree is awarded.
