I'm not a fan of phrase-based courses generally, but for the untrained course writer, they're certainly a lot easier than anything more sophisticated. "Hello, my name is Joe." "I would like a coffee." It may be boring as hell, but it's a start. As you go, you might find yourself noticing useful patterns you could make into FSI style pattern drills.
