Specialized calculus courses are offered in residence that combine differential and integral calculus with business or life science applications. A discontinued business/economics sequence of calculus is still awarded as transfer credit. Some institutions may offer four-course calculus sequences which present special problems in transfer.
Depending on the school, this could mean 3-5 college credits based on your AB score or 6-10 credits based on the BC. Every school is different, though, so it's important to know before you go! For example, some colleges and universities award credits even if you scored a 3.

Is it Easy to Get a 5 on AP Calc BC? At first glance, it may appear that it is easier to get a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam than on the AP Calculus AB exam. In 2021, for example, about 38% of Calculus BC test-takers received a 5 on the exam, whereas only 18% of Calculus AB test-takers received a 5 that same year.
How the AP Calculus BC Exam Is Scored. Like all AP exams, the AP Calculus BC exam is scored on a scale from 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest score, and 5 being the highest score.
What is a good AP® Calculus BC score? Receiving a 3, 4, or 5 is generally accepted as scoring well on an AP® exam. According to the College Board a 3 is 'qualified,' a 4 'well qualified,' and a 5 'extremely well qualified.
A score of 3 or higher is generally considered good, because that means you passed the exam! A 4 is considered very good, and a 5 is especially impressive since it is the highest score. Also keep in mind that every college sets its own policy about AP credit.
Is AP Calculus AB or BC harder? AP Calculus BC is generally considered more advanced than AP Calculus AB. Although the two classes have similar pass rates on their AP exams, the material in AP Calculus BC builds off of material covered in AP Calculus AB, which is a more introductory calculus course.
Calculus is hard because it is one of the most difficult and advanced forms of mathematics that most STEM majors encounter. Both high school and college calculus are a huge jump in terms of difficulty when compared to the math courses students have previously taken.

In 2018, 308,538 students took the AP Calculus AB exam, and of those students, 177,756 (57.6 percent) scored a three or higher indicating that they have reached a level of competency similar to that provided by a college calculus course.
The AP Calculus AB course covers central calculus concepts such as functions, graphs, limits, derivatives, and integrals. Before taking AP Calculus AB, students should have completed coursework in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, and they should have been introduced to elementary functions.
Limits. The concept of limits is at the heart of calculus, and students need to learn to compute limits. Coverage includes one-sided limits, limits at infinity, limits and sequences, intervals of continuity, and points of discontinuity. Students learn to express limits symbolically and interpret limits that are expressed symbolically.
Updated July 03, 2019. AP Calculus AB is a much more popular course than AP Calculus BC, and in 2018 over 308,000 took the exam. Few AP courses and exams are as effective in demonstrating college readiness than calculus, especially for students going into STEM or business fields.
Note that AP Calculus AB, unlike AP Calculus BC, does not cover polynomial approximations and series.
Finally, keep in mind that even if the college you plan to attend does not give credit for the AP Calculus AB exam, doing well can strengthen your application. Success in AP courses is often a much better measure of an applicant's college readiness than SAT scores, class rank, and other measures.
Students who take AP Calculus BC cover all of the information in the AB course, and they receive a subscore for the AB test when they take the BC exam. To determine what you need to get on your final exam in order to get a 90% in the class, let's do some math using the formula above. First add the weight of all the class assignments together including your final: wtotal = 10% + 10% + 20% + 20% + 20% = 100%.
