Except for Architectural Engineering majors, a "D-" is the minimum passing grade for major or support courses.
Check the course description in catalog.calpoly.edu for details. Important: While a D- may be considered passing, your MAJOR GPA, CPSLO GPA and Higher Ed GPA must be at least 2.0 (a C Average) in order to graduate.
Repeated attempts will be averaged in the student's GPA up to 18 units. If a course is taken with credit/no credit grading, the original grade will not be excluded from the GPA. A student can no longer repeat a course in which a C or higher grade is earned.

Postbaccalaureate Change of Objective forms are due to the Graduate Education Office no later than the fourth week of the quarter prior to the quarter in which the student would like the change in standing to take effect. For example, if a student wants to transition to graduate standing in Winter, the student must submit their completed Postbaccalaureate Change of Objective to the Graduate Education Office by Week 4 of Fall quarter. If the student has met all Blended transition requirements by the Week 4 Fall deadline, they will be able to register for the Winter quarter as a graduate student.
The Graduation Writing Requirement (GWR) is required to graduate with a bachelor's and/or master's degree, so we highly recommend completing the requirement as soon as possible. However, due to recent changes with the GWR Portfolio, many undergraduate students cannot complete the requirement until their last quarter.

The Dean's List is compiled at the end of each quarter to recognize undergraduate students who have completed 12 or more letter-graded units at Cal Poly during the quarter with a 3.5 grade point average or better for that term.
The President's List is compiled at the end of each university year to recognize those undergraduate students who have demonstrated consistent achievement, as represented by being named on the Dean's Honors List for any three of the four quarters of the university year. Cal Poly's Single Subject Credential Program in English is designed to prepare university graduates to become English teachers in California secondary schools. In cooperation with the School of Education and school districts, the English credential program provides credential candidates with the requisite background in the subject of English, including curriculum and instructional approaches for literature, writing, language, and communication skills.
Joshi Endowed Research Fellowship to study the literature of horror-fiction writer H.P. Lovecraft. The fellowship provides a monthly stipend of $1,500 for up to two months of research at the John Hay Library at Brown University — home to the largest collection of H.P. Lovecraft materials in the world. Fetters competed with advanced graduate students, faculty and independent scholars to be the sole fellowship recipient for 2017. Fetters began his two-month fellowship on July 1. The research and findings he compiles will be summarized in a presentation at the conclusion of the fellowship. “The intention is to use archival material to develop a project for presentation at a public lecture alongside a panel with other Lovecraft scholars,” Fetters said.
