Virtual Loudoun courses are asynchronous — meaning you don't have to attend online classes at a specific time. Our students use a combination of self-study and peer-to-peer interaction over an online learning network to facilitate instruction.

The admission rate of about 23 percent is about the same as the passing rate of my Compter Science program at University of Maryland, College Park. We had about a 75 to 80 percentage rate in the program. Yes, and most of the students in the program are Asian and Indian.
Phased Admissions Process The current two-phased process for AOS and AET would be streamlined for applicants and a lottery would be used to determine final admissions offers. All applicants would complete the online application and take the STEM Thinking and Writing Assessment.
It has been difficult to obtain a fair cost comparison of sending children to Academies of Loudoun programs though; the district-wide cost per child is $15,241, with board members and staff acknowledging the statistics do not clearly represent the situation of ground.
Virginia students are assessed in writing in grade 8 and once in most high schools with a state end-of-course (EOC) writing test. If a high school administers a locally developed writing assessment, results are not included in this chart as scores on locally developed writing assessments are not reported to the Virginia Department of Education.
To graduate with a Standard Diploma, a student must earn at least 22 standard units of credit by passing required courses and electives, and earn at least six verified credit s by passing end-of-course SOL tests or other assessments approved by the Board of Education.
Virginia’s 16 career clusters help students investigate careers and design a rigorous and relevant plan of study to advance their career goals. Each career cluster contains multiple pathways that represent a common set of academic, technical and work-place skills.

High school students will make course selections for the upcoming school year in late winter/early spring of the current school year. Available courses can be viewed through StudentVUE/ParentVUE.
Should the student not pass the first semester of a full year Dual Enrolled course, they will be automatically dropped from the second semester of the Dual Enrolled course . Student course placement for second semester would fall under course level change guidelines as explained above.

Term 3 begins May 30, 2022, and ends August 5, 2022. For Terms 1 and 2, there are no fees associated with approved course enrollment for LCPS students. Virtual Loudoun offers online courses through Schoology using content that is aligned to the Standards of Learning to offer new educational opportunities to students. These courses present educational material and credit courses at the high school level to students using online resources.
Virtual Loudoun courses are full-year courses offered in a condensed term. Students should expect, on average, to dedicate 140 hours to complete a 1 credit course within the term period.
Students MUST be 15 prior to the start of the 2021-2022 school year to enroll in Driver Education. Students who are not eligible to enroll in the Term 3 Health and PE with Driver Education portion of the course are permitted to register for Health and PE 10 ONLY.
Loudoun County Public Schools will start the school year fully remote for most students on Sept. 8. The only exception will be the roughly 900 students at the Monroe Advanced Technical Academy, who will attend one day of in-person instruction each week in small groups also starting on Sept. 8. Monroe, a school focused on career and technical education, offers hands-on courses impossible to conduct from a distance — for example, lessons in cosmetology and the culinary arts.
In Loudoun, the elementary-school day will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The middle-school day will run from 8:35 a.m. to 3:23 p.m. The high-school day will run from 9 a.m . to 3:58 p.m.
Yes, but not because of the pandemic. The Loudoun school board adopted a new grading policy in October 2019 that took effect in August. The policy includes “a new philosophy of grading and assessment, clear definitions of formative and summative assessments, and more specific and consistent grading practices,” according to a school spokesman. Most of these would be virtual sessions. Loudoun is continuing to hold individual and group counseling for students who need it via video — but school officials said they will consider offering in-person services if it finds students cannot “participate in telecounseling effectively,” perhaps because the student is too young. The school system is also offering mental health teleconsultation to parents and staffers. The school system is partnering with the Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department to offer full-day and after-school childcare to school and Loudoun County government employees starting Sept. 8. School officials are still “reviewing the feasibility” of providing similar services for Loudoun families, a school spokesman said in late August.
Loudoun will continue to distribute breakfasts and lunches at campus sites this coming school year, as well as delivering some meals via bus routes.
