Electronic Course Reserves (ECR) is a service provided for NSU faculty and staff to place reading materials on electronic reserve for your course (s). After the the ECR Request Form is submitted, you will receive verification that your request was received. The average request is processed and completed within 5 – 10 business days.
Patrons access Course Reserves material through Primo. Many libraries include Course Reserves as a separate scope in the discovery layer: Links to electronic materials and information about print materials are visible in the same way as regular, non-course reserve materials.
Using the Course Reserves area, the Design Analytics user may create reports/dashboards for the Course Reserves area and is able to answer the following types of business questions: Which courses reserved a specific title? Which courses share the same titles? What are the reading lists per department? How are courses loaded?
Alma’s course reserve functionality is fully integrated and uses the same user and bibliographic databases as the rest of the system. Additionally, Alma provides searching of both bibliographic records and course reserve information in a single interface for library staff, and through a common discovery interface, such as Primo, for end users.
Course Reserve Collections can be managed across more than one library within the institution. Reading Lists – contain citations compiled by the course instructor and submitted to the library. The list may include resources which are in the institutional repository, or which are not in the repository.
Course Reserves are an excellent option to provide course content to students. Reserves help to alleviate the effect of ever-increasing textbook costs on students, foster student and faculty engagement, and create opportunities for library outreach.
E-Reserves are electronically accessible, full text images of articles and short book chapters, that meet fair use copyright guidelines. They benefit students 24 hours a day, seven days a week access to course readings. Previous e-reserves services were discontinued in 2009.

Access to the Electronic Reserves is available via the Find e-reserves & Recommended books link on the Library home page. This will take you to the Course Code Search screen.
Some journal publishers block electronic access to their titles for a certain number of years (usually 1-5). This ensures that their journal content can only be accessed via print for that many years.
Use UC Library Search to search for ebooks held by UC San Diego. Look for records in the results that say Available Online, then click the title to bring up the full record with the actual link to get to the ebook. Unless otherwise noted, the books allow for unlimited simultaneous usage.
Reserves are placed only during semesters when the course for which those materials were requested is in session.
Reserves materials must be returned to the same service desk from which they were borrowed.
