Because regular gospel study should be a continuous part of a student's university experience, it would be ideal to take one religion class each semester of enrollment. To encourage this, no more than 4 hours of religion credit per semester (spring/summer counts as one semester) may be counted toward the required religion hours to be taken at BYU.
All students who receive undergraduate degrees from BYU are required to complete the core requirements as outlined below. Exceptions to this policy are explained in the Graduation Requirements Policy. The university core comprises four categories: Doctrinal Foundations; The Individual and Society; Skills; and Arts, Letters, and Sciences.

The BYU Madrigal Singers were formed in 1952 under the direction of John R. Halliday. Halliday (1911–1988) had bachelor's and master's degrees in music from BYU and a Ph.D. from the Eastman School of Music. He had also been an assistant director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, under J. Spencer Cornwall.

Founded in 1958, it has steadily grown to its present membership of 180 voices, with over 400 annually auditioning for the ensemble. As a result of its versatile literature and engaging performance style, the BYU Men’s Chorus has captured the admiration of audiences throughout the Western United States and beyond.
Of the 180 members only a few are music majors with the remainder drawn from every college and department of the university. Over 2/3 of the chorus have served LDS missions throughout the world, and a large number are planning to serve after their 18th or 19th birthdays.
The Men’s Chorus Outreach 2000 is born and perform several benefit concerts and the first concert for Utah high schools. The Men’s Chorus also tours New Mexico, and their live benefit concert for Habitat for Humanity airs on KBYU and BYUTV. 1999.

BYU Singers consists of 40 students pursuing a variety of graduate and undergraduate degrees in such areas as physical science, law, accounting, social science, visual arts, and music. The ensemble originates in the School of Music of the College of Fine Arts & Communications at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
BYU Singers will also perform as part of “An Evening with Eric Whitacre and the BYU Choirs” in March 2022 , under the direction of the esteemed composer and conductor.
During the 2021-2022 season, the choir will appear with Broadway legend Brian Stokes Mitchell at the BYU Spectacular; in an invited performance at the Western Division conference of the American Choral Directors Association in Long Beach, CA; and will embark on a performance tour of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania in the spring.
