Virtual Loudoun offers online courses through Schoology using content that is aligned to the Standards of Learning to offer new educational opportunities to students. These courses present educational material and credit courses at the high school level to students using online resources.
For students who do not attend LCPS, September 24, 2021, is the last day to pay for a Virtual Loudoun course or request a refund. Registration begins on Monday, November 29, 2021, and closes on Friday, January 7, 2022.
Students may withdraw from a virtual course between February 19 and April 8 with a Withdraw Pass (WP) if the current grade, determined by progress measured by the course pacing guide, is 60 or higher, or a Withdraw Fail (WF) if the current grade is below 60. These withdrawals will have no impact on GPA.

LSAS Virtual Summer Courses are for rising 6th through 12th grade students. We are offering two sessions of engaging synchronous learning led by our academic year teachers. Classes are designed to inspire creativity, encourage intellectual engagement and provide positive social interactions.
Part 1: Memories & Memoirs. This part of the course will focus on memoirs and realist fiction. We will focus on the way that artists capture the texture of lived experience through their use of visual language. We will read coming of age stories by Chris Ware, Lynda Barry, and others.

Teachers for grades third through twelfth will continue to provide these opportunities synchronously and asynchronously, while kindergarten through second-grade teachers will be able to provide offline learning opportunities through ParentVue or other means of communication with families. Packets of English and math material will also be mailed to K-2 families every two weeks beginning April 15.
A student's final grade for each course will be determined by one of three processes, whichever results in the most favorable number grade. These include: averaging the grades from the first three quarters; averaging the first semester and third-quarter grades; or administering a first semester grade in addition to a pass or fail for the third quarter and the final grade, in which case GPA would be calculated using the first semester grade. The first option will be used for all elementary school students, who do not receive first semester grades.
Kindergarten to second-grade students are expected to do up to 60 minutes of work daily; students grades third through fifth should do up to 90 minutes; and students grades sixth through twelfth should spend up to 30 minutes per class, up to three or four cumulative hours a day. Efforts of those enrolled in AP or dual-enrollment courses are to align with course expectations.
LCPS teachers will use April 13 and 14 as professional development and planning days to help them prepare to start implementing new content into distance learning experiences on April 15.
Instructors can provide optional learning opportunities to be completed over break and remain in virtual contact with students. Material available for review of previously covered material is also available at lcps.org/continuityofeducation. Any optional learning opportunities distributed by teachers over break will not be graded.
Courses completed to satisfy this requirement shall include U.S. and Virginia History, U.S. and Virginia Government, and one course in either world history or geography or both. The board shall approve courses to satisfy this requirement.
To graduate with a Standard Diploma for students who entered the ninth grade for the first time in 2011-2012 through 2017-2018, a student must earn at least 22 standard units of credit and six verified units of credit. Students earn standard credits by successfully completing required and elective courses.
First Aid, CPR, and AED Training - Students shall be trained in emergency first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and the use of automated external defibrillators (AED), including hands-on practice of the skills necessary to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Students with an IEP or 504 Plan that documents that they cannot successfully complete this training shall be granted a waiver from this graduation requirement, as provided in 8VAC20-131-420 (B).

Demonstration of the 5 C’s - In accordance with the Profile of a Virginia Graduate, students shall acquire and demonstrate foundational skills in Virginia’s 5 C’s: critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, communication, and citizenship.
Courses completed to satisfy this requirement shall include course selection from at least two different science disciplines: earth sciences, biology, chemistry, or physics, or completion of the sequence of science courses required for the International Baccalaureate Diploma and shall include interdisciplinary courses that incorporate Standards of Learning content from multiple academic areas. The board shall approve courses to satisfy this requirement. An approved computer science course credit earned by students may be considered a science course credit.
