The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) is a series of courses prospective transfer students may complete to satisfy the lower division breadth/general education requirements at both the UC and the CSU. The IGETC is most helpful to students who want to keep their options open - those who know they want to transfer, but who have not yet decided upon a particular institution, campus, or major. Students who intend to transfer into a high unit major or one that requires extensive lower division preparation, such as engineering, should concentrate on completing the many major preparation courses. If you choose to follow IGETC in order to transfer to UC, you’ll want to: 1 Check with your transfer adviser to make sure your courses satisfy IGETC requirements. 2 Complete all the IGETC courses before you transfer. Otherwise, you'll need to satisfy the specific freshman/sophomore-level general education requirements of your UC college or school.
GPA requirement. Your courses will count towards IGETC if you get grades of a C or better. A grade of Credit or Pass will also count if the community college's policy states it is equivalent to a grade of C or better.
Complete 60 semester (90 quarter) units of UC-transferable coursework with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.4 (2.8 if you are a nonresident). No more than 14 semester (21 quarter) units may be taken Pass/No Pass.

The IGETC for STEM pattern is designed for students pursuing an associate degree for transfer (ADT) that specifies this GE pattern. UC campuses will accept IGETC for STEM only if the student is earning an ADT degree and the UC campus and major to which the student is applying accepts partial IGETC certification.

"Certification" means that the last California Community College a student attended for a regular term (Fall or Spring for semester schools or Fall, Winter, Spring for quarter schools) prior to transfer to the UC or CSU system will verify that the student has completed the IGETC requirements . Both the CSU and UC Systems have an American Institutions (AI) graduation requirement that is separate from IGETC requirements and is not required for IGETC Certification.
