Canvas uses a SpeedGrader. It gives the instructor the ability to comment/markup a document, without downloading the student’s submission. When an Assignment is created, it is added to the Assignment page, Syllabus and Calendar. If updated, all links are updated.
Interactive rubrics can be used for grading. Students can submit multimedia assignments or submit document from external services like Google Drive. Instructors can limit the type of file allowed to be uploaded. Instructors can leave multimedia comments. Peer Review assignments can be created.
Messages can include file attachments, webcam recordings, audio or video uploads, or just text.
Modules are used in Canvas for organizing content.
Recent Activity links allow you to expand, remove or navigate to that item within the course.
Calendar is automatically populated with items that have Due Dates.
You can mark up the submitted file by adding comments, drawing, highlighting or text; this is the same service (Crocodocs) as Blackboard.
You can begin creating your courses and copying your content for Summer in Blackboard. Please begin this process if you haven’t already! On April 30th, Learning Systems will be automating the creation of course shells for the remainder of Summer courses.

Kaltura is integrated with Blackboard and is the best way at VCU to quickly deliver video to your students. In response to COVID-19 and accessibility requirements for video learning content, all new video content uploaded or captured will now be automatically captioned.
Blackboard Course Retention – In order to maintain system integrity and efficiency, Bb courses and user accounts are archived, deleted and/or made unavailable on a regular basis throughout the year. This maintenance is based on State and VCU-defined procedures and guidelines.
Download any Blackboard Collaborate videos you may have recorded. The deadline to retrieve organization content was March 31, 2021, not to be confused the the deadline to retrieve course content on May 31, 2021.
This means, if you publish your course before the defaulted open date has approached, the students will still be unable to access the course.

First, contact your instructor to see if and when they plan to open the course to students.
Modules. Modules are similar to folders/Learning Modules/lesson plans in Blackboard.. Instructors can set Module prerequisites and Module completion requirements. Instructors can require students to go through Module requirements sequentially. Modules can be "locked" until a given date.
Instructors may have students use a 3rd party application such as Blogger.com and share the URL with the class or create them their own Discussion Board in the course or a Group.
Instructors may make a rubric viewable so that they know the criteria is for completing the assignment.
As you create/edit objects in the course, the Syllabus reflects the new or adjusted content.
