Credits petitioned for transfer must be relevant to the student's Binghamton degree program, must not have been used to satisfy the requirements of another degree, and must have been earned in graduate-level courses for which the student earned at least a B, and must have been earned at an accredited university.

Students may retake courses in which they have received a passing grade (D or higher). This is to allow a student to demonstrate mastery of a given subject matter upon which successful performance in later courses may depend. The repeated course does not count toward hours attempted, hours completed or the GPA.

90-92%A 3.7 GPA, or Grade Point Average, is equivalent to an A- letter grade on a 4.0 GPA scale. This means is equivalent to a 90-92%. The national average GPA is 3.0 which means a 3.7 is well above average. A 3.7 GPA can be hard to raise as it's already so high, but if you're really determined you can make it happen.
4.0 scaleThe 4.0 scale is the most commonly used GPA scale. A 4.0 represents an A or A+, with each full grade being a full point lower: 3.0=B, 2.0=C, and 1.0=D. Pluses are an additional one-third of a point, while minuses are the subtraction of one-third of a point. For example, an A- is a 3.7, and a B+ is a 3.3.

The grading system of the Graduate School applies to all graduate-level courses offered at Binghamton University. A cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 is required for graduation. The grade-point average is calculated on a 4.0 scale.
Binghamton University, the State University of New York at Binghamton, has five undergraduate schools: Harpur College of Arts and Sciences (the liberal arts component); the School of Management; the Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences; the Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology; and the College of Community and Public Affairs. The descriptions that follow explain the transcripts for each of these undergraduate schools and the information noted thereon.

Graduate Students Taking Undergraduate Courses. Undergraduate coursework taken while a student is enrolled as a graduate student will show on a graduate transcript but carry no grade points and will not count in a graduate GPA nor count toward the completion of a graduate degree.
General Eng. Minor. This curriculum is intended as a general engineering minor for students outside of engineering. Declaring the minor is by application only; minimum of five courses required. Students must complete the three prerequisite courses for the minor and achieve at least a 2.7 GPA in those three courses before applying to the program.
Topics include interest rates, time value of money, present and future worth, economic evaluation of alternatives, taxes, inflation and justification of new technologies. Also included are project related management tools, such as project planning, budgeting, work breakdown structure, monitoring and completion.
Residence is defined as successful completion of 24 credit hours of Binghamton University graduate online or onsite coursework. The residence requirement refers to the University's administrative requirement for residence, not New York state residency.
Determination of Academic Standing. A cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0 is required for a graduate degree. To maintain satisfactory academic progress, students are required to earn a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 in all courses that the Graduate School counts toward a degree.
Courses numbered 500 and above are graduate courses, ordinarily open only to graduate students. Undergraduate students who are within eight credits of graduation may register for up to two graduate-level courses and receive graduate credit, provided the graduate courses are not used to meet any undergraduate degree requirements. Such graduate hours will appear as graduate courses on the undergraduate transcript, but are not used in the calculation of the undergraduate GPA and do not count toward full-time status for financial aid purposes (which may affect eligibility for certain types of financial aid).
Thus, for master's programs requiring a minimum of 30 credit hours, no more than six transfer credits may be applied toward the degree. When master's programs require more than 30 credit hours, the Dean of the Graduate School may accept a larger number of transfer credits.
A minimum of 18 normally graded credits (residence hours) must be completed at the graduate level after the bachelor’s degree is awarded. Programs have the discretion to limit the number of credits that can be counted toward both degrees.
In order to be considered registered, graduate students must confirm enrollment and pay all tuition and fees as billed. Even if all tuition and fees are covered by University sources, graduate students must confirm enrollment by the stated deadline.
How to change your grade option. Once you have made the decision to change your grade option, you can go to BU BRAIN, Student tab, then Registration, select Grade Option Change. The Grade Option Change is available online through 4:30 p.m. on the change of grade option deadline.
The grading options are letter grade or pass/fail. The selected grading option will be conveyed to your instructor at the beginning of the semester and during the grading period, but you may wish to inform the instructor of your decision should you make a change later in the semester.
