Students are required to submit an application for readmission, transcripts from any colleges attended, and, in addition, should provide a brief written statement detailing the reasons for returning to Geneseo.
Students intending to use specific courses taken abroad to fulfill Geneseo requirements must consult and receive prior approval for the courses from their major department and the Office of the Dean of Curriculum and Academic Services.
All students are expected to maintain satisfactory levels of academic achievement (at least a 2.00 cumulative grade point average and appropriate levels of credits completed satisfactorily in each semester) throughout their tenure at Geneseo and to make satisfactory progress toward their degrees.
Geneseo students who take courses at other colleges or universities and expect to transfer those credits to Geneseo must request approval for the courses by completing a course approval form prior to taking the courses.
All students are capped at 17 credits during advance registration and the first round of open registration for fall and spring. When registration re-opens just before the semester begins, the credit cap will be raised to 19 for all students. For Intersession, students will be capped at 5 credits.

A Registration Add Error Message will be displayed that specifically indicates the reason you cannot put yourself on a waitlist (e.g., the waitlist is full, you have not met the course prerequisites, etc.).

The General Education curriculum at SUNY Geneseo provides the broad knowledge and fundamental skills that are the necessary possession of an educated citizen and the proper foundation for specialized study in a particular discipline. All current candidates for the Bachelor's degree at Geneseo must complete the General Education curriculum in its entirety. Any student who is readmitted to Geneseo following withdrawal, resignation, or dismissal must complete all elements of the General Education curriculum in place at the time of readmission.
A few courses in the General Education curriculum may be counted toward more than one area. These courses appear in the Undergraduate Bulletin with double prefixes (S/M, S/U). For example, ARTH 180 is an F/ and M/ course.

What is an advising requirement? Students who have required advisement (first-year students, first-semester transfers, students on academic probation, students with a cumulative GPA of 2.30 or lower) will not be able to register for classes until they meet with their advisor.
How do I drop/withdraw from a class? In the KnightWeb registration menu, click on "Register for classes.". Select the current term, then click the drop-down arrow next to the course you want to drop/withdraw from. Select " Web drop/withdrawal," and click "Submit.".

Please note that students who do not officially drop or withdraw from courses and do not attend class are still officially registered for the courses. As such, they may be obligated to pay outstanding tuition and fees, and may also be subject to a failing grade.

Credits earned while on study abroad will be treated as transfer credits and will not be included in the Geneseo GPA. This is probably one of the most common reasons for overloading at Boston University. Since almost every major here is incredibly intensive, students sometimes have to overload in order to finish up their prerequisites on time to take a required class for their major.
Studying abroad, probably one of the most fun experiences I have ever had, is absolutely one of the best experiences that BU has to offer. Therefore, a lot of students want to participate in it. However, when studying abroad, it is hard to take the exact classes you need to graduate.
CALLING ALL SCIENCE MAJORS! I didn’t believe it was true for the longest time but alas, it is. When you’re a science major, you have so many labs, pre-labs, discussion, and lectures that you need to do before you can take major-specific courses.
This is my main reason! In order to graduate early with a journalism degree, you have to overload for a semester or two so you have all of your major requirements done. This applies to a lot of majors at BU as well. If students want to graduate early, typically at least one semester is overloaded.
