Associate membership levels to one or more courses#N#Create a membership level and map it to one, or multiple, LearnDash courses. When the membership level is purchased, the user is auto-enrolled into the associated courses.

About LearnDash

LearnDash is a WordPress Learning Management System (LMS) that allows you to create & sell courses, deliver quizzes, award certificates, manage users, download reports, and other similar features.

About the Integration

The developers behind LearnDash have designed and developed an integration with Paid Memberships Pro that will allow you to:

Restricting Custom Post Types

LearnDash uses Custom Post Types (CPT) to create various types of course content. You can use the Custom Post Types Add On as an alternative to their integration to protect LearnDash CPTs by membership level. We explore this method in more detail in the How to Manage Courses with Paid Memberships Pro article.

Plugins Required

This setup requires three separate plugins and a code recipe I’m including below:

How to Set it Up

In the WordPress admin, create a new page for each course you would like to sell “a la carte”. These pages serve as the “sales page” for the course and will not hold any of the actual course content.

Adding the recipe to your website

To make this recipe to work for your site, you’ll need to update the $pmpro_addon_pages_for_courses array for each “page to course” relationship. The array accepts data in the format: {WP Post ID} => {Course ID}. Add an item to the array for each individual course you want to sell a la carte.

Why should you create a membership site?

Customers don’t mind spending on a monthly basis for a huge repository of data as opposed to a one-time payment for limited data.

Choosing a Membership Plugin for Creating a membership site on LearnDash

There are quite a few membership plugins to choose from while setting up the membership module for your LearnDash membership site. I for one, am going to strongly root for the Paid Membership Pro plugin.

How to Make The Most of Paid Membership Pro (On Your LearnDash LMS)

Yes, giving students all your courses for free for a short while might sound crazy (after all charging people for this data is what your business is about). However, just as crazy as it may be, it is important. A customer who is about to invest time and money into your website will definitely appreciate a trial period. (I would!)

Over To You

So, that was about the what, why and how of a LearnDash Website with a Memberships feature. Many might think that for growing an eLearning business the membership way is a slow process and probably they are right about it.

Do you need a membership plugin for LearnDash?

First things first: You do not need a membership plugin to control access to your course. LearnDash has built-in content protection that means you can control your courses, and they can’t be shared with others or found on Google unless you make the permission settings open.
