How to build your new Canvas course
For assistance creating a new course, contact your Canvas Admin. If your institution is using a course template, your new course will be populated with content from that template. Open Dashboard In the Global Navigation Menu, click the Dashboardlink. Create New Course In the Dashboard sidebar, click the Start a New Coursebutton.

Create a course shell. Enter "Simple Canvas Course" and a shorter reference code, such as "SCC 101" in Step 1 of the Course Setup Wizard [1]. Skip to Step 3 to add example students [2], Click "Save & Skip the Rest" to save the course shell [3]. Once you save the course, you will be taken to the Course Home Page.
1. From either canvas.temple.edu or learn.temple.edu click “Course Tools.” 2. On the “Course Tools” page click the “Banner Class Lists” tab. 3. Click the “+” next to one of the courses listed. 4. Click the radio button next to “Canvas” then click “Create Course Shell.” 5. Visit canvas.temple.edu to see your course listed and begin building your course.
By default, manually created courses revert to read-only status for all site members exactly one year after the date of creation. You will receive email reminders approximately 30 days and seven days before the courses you own expire.
Several months before the beginning of each semester, official courses for academic credit at Indiana University are provisioned automatically in Canvas through integration with the university's Student Information System (SIS). Consequently, if you're assigned to teach an official course, your course site in Canvas will be created automatically.
