National Diploma in Technology (NDT) is a three-year full-time engineering program for engineers. At present it is conducted by the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa.
The SLAEB commenced its Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) programme in 1981 to promote NDT technology in the country for training and qualification of NDT personnel and to provide NDT services to the Industry.
The Institute of Engineering Technology (IET) offers the NVQ Level 6 National Diploma in Engineering Sciences (NDES) qualification and the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa (ITUM) offers the Level 6 National Diploma in Technology (NDT) programme.

National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) a Level 6 NVQ is the same as a Bachelors degree. Levels 4 and 5 equate to the first and second years of a Bachelors degree respectively.
NVQ Level 4 equivalent – Higher Education Certificate/BTEC. NVQ Level 5 equivalent – Higher Education Diploma/Foundation Degree. NVQ Level 6 equivalent – Undergraduate Degree/Degree Apprenticeship.
An NVQ Level 7 is equivalent to a Masters degree.
A HND is a great qualification for those who aren't suitable for a traditional 3 Year Bachelor's Degree Programme. This allows a different route to gain a Level 6 Qualification. HND's tend to be assessed through assignments, projects and practical tasks that you complete throughout the course.
