Auditing a class is a convenient way to explore a new subject or field, help you pick a major, or even revisit an interest after graduation or during retirement. Auditing also allows students with different learning styles to develop new skills and pursue interests they're passionate about.
Just because you are auditing a class, it is not free education. You will be asked to pay regular credit fees to audit a course. Many colleges and universities will also record your participation in the course.

Statutory Tuition: Resident students pay $50 tuition per semester credit hour during academic year 2022-23 and $50 tuition per semester credit hour during academic year 2023-24. Auditing a Class Once you audit a course you cannot change it back* to credit unless it is before the end of the add/drop period for the term. Auditing or Withdrawing will have the same effect on your academic record (transcript) but they may impact your financial aid, excess credit, tuition benefits, etc.
There are three main types of audits: external audits, internal audits, and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) audits.
Course audit is given only to a student who has passed the comprehensive examination and still. within the residency requirement of five (5) years for Master's and seven (7) years for Doctorate. programs. A student who wishes to audit a course must state his/her intent/reason to do so at.
In addition to the traditional price plan, a Guaranteed Tuition Price Plan (GPP) is available. ( Comparison of rates are available on the current tuition and fee schedules available on the Cashier's Office website). Only Texas residents entering SHSU for the first time are eligible to select the GPP as a price plan option. The GPP is a fixed cost tuition payment program that is valid for 12 consecutive terms including Summer terms. Before making this selection, we encourage you to review the FAQ information document as the GPP may not benefit certain students.
Recreational Sports Fee: Legislative action authorizes a recreational sports fee not to exceed $100 per semester for academic year 2021-2022 and academic year 2022-23. It may be used to purchase equipment for and/or construct, operate, maintain recreational sports facilities and programs.

Registration fees are payable at registration, except for that portion of the registration fee that may be temporarily deferred, but payable later in scheduled payments as part of an installment payment agreement.

Students who are within nine months from graduating high school are required to live on campus and hold a resident dining plan. Students outside of this timeframe may elect to live off campus. Students who live off campus may elect to purchase a meal plan. A parking permit is required to park on all SHSU campuses.

For a 14 week (standard) course the audit deadline is two weeks after the start of the course; for 7 week (intensive) courses, the audit deadline is one week after the start of the course.
When you Audit an Outlier course, it simply means you’re taking the course without the expectation of earning credits or impacting your college transcript. You will not receive a grade, a transcript, nor credits and will not be participating in exams.
