To know if something complex is moral, we need to know not only the action but the cause, the mind-set of the person taking the action, and the intended effect. Moral knowledge can be derived from measuring the impressions a person has about an action, and investigating the thinking of the person who made the action.
That the morality of an action is not only determined by its intention is shown by the fact that unintentional actions can also be morally blameworthy.
Generally speaking, doing the right thing is an act that follows justice, law and morality while doing the wrong thing refers to an act that does not follow morality or justice.
