What is the museums in the World Programme?

Every year, the British Museum runs a skill-sharing programme for museum and heritage professionals from around the world. The International Training Programme seeks to expose participants to various aspects of museum work, to develop skills, disseminate best practice, increase specialist knowledge and create a global network of colleagues.

How does the British Museum select the countries it works with?

Adult learning. Adult learning, festivals, lates and special events. Explore the cultural heritage of the world and make unexpected connections with a breadth of programming designed for adults of all ages including talks, debates, performances, study days and short courses.

The 2019 programme took place from 8 July to 16 August, with the UK partner placement from 29 July to 7 August.

Each year we externally evaluate the ITP and publish a full report on our activities throughout the year.

Prospective Participants

Each year we select the countries and institutions we work with based on the British Museum's collections, departments and international strategy, and whether specialist staff will be available to facilitate.

What is it? World’s oldest purpose-built museum building where visitors can marvel at scientific instruments.

6. The Story Museum

What is it? Child-friendly museum celebrating the gentle art of spinning a good yarn.

7. Museum of Oxford

What is it? Town Hall-based museum dedicated to the history of Oxford and its people.

8. Bate Collection of Musical Instruments

What is it? Honking great collection of historical musical instruments.
