Important Policies. All holds must be removed before a student can drop a course or withdraw from the Institute. There is no refund for dropped courses. In order to qualify for a refund, a student must completely withdraw from the Institute before the deadline.
Withdrawal usually means the course remains on the transcript with a “W” as a grade. It does not affect the student's GPA (grade point average). Although students may be reluctant to have a “W” on their transcript, sometimes “W” stands for Wisdom.

With 97.0% of students staying on for a second year, Georgia Institute of Technology - Main Campus is one of the best in the country when it comes to freshman retention. Nationwide, the average first year to second year retention rate is 69.0% .

Failing & Then Re-Taking a Class Croskey notes that dropping a class is better than withdrawing, but withdrawing is better than failing. “A failing grade will lower the student's GPA, which may prevent a student from participating in a particular major that has a GPA requirement,” Croskey says.
Withdrawing from one class won't affect your GPA, but allowing all of your grades to fall while you manage too many classes will only influence you negatively.
1. Achieve at least a 4.09 GPA while taking the most challenging classes available. Remember, the average GPA of students accepted to Georgia Tech for the 2020-2021 school year was 4.09, and the percentage of students with a 4.0 GPA is 84.6%.
When a student drops a course from their schedule, the course is completely erased from the student's class schedule. Dropped courses do not appear on the student's official academic record (which includes their academic transcript) and do not incur tuition and fee charges.
Of those 496 graduates, 384 (77%) have completed their Georgia Tech careers with academic honors in their respective majors—234 graduating with Highest Honors, 84 with High Honors, and another 66 with Honors—which is well above the norm for the university as a whole.
There are two options for requesting the withdrawal: The preferred option is that the student's advisor email the Office of the Registrar (copying the student) at [email protected]. The second option is that the student email the Office of the Registrar at [email protected].
A student may retake up to four courses in which he/she previously made a D or F (not to exceed 18 hours) to have the first grade removed from the Retention GPA. Any course repeated more than one time will be averaged into your GPAs. I live about an hour away.
For member convenience, ECU has temporarily increased the daily ATM cash withdrawal limit. You may now withdraw up to $1,000 by performing two $500 transactions. This increase has been implemented to assist members with a need to make larger withdrawals due to the deposit of stimulus payments and/or tax refunds.
The Federal Return of Title IV Funds procedure mandates that students who officially withdraw (drop all classes) or unofficially withdraw (stop attending without dropping all classes) may only keep the financial aid they have "earned" up to the time of withdrawal.

The word “withdraw” means to take back or take away. In terms of college applications, withdrawing your application means that you are no longer considering the school as a possible choice for you.
A withdrawn application means a course choice has been withdrawn by either you or the university/college. The reason will show up in on your application – maybe you didn't respond to emails/letters they sent, or missed an interview.
Students who cease attendance without withdrawing via the Student Information System receive grades of "F," "U," or "I" for their ongoing courses.
Any student in good standing who chooses to participate in an approved study abroad program for two or more terms must complete a Student Information Update Form with the study abroad coordinator prior to departure. This form enables the student to re-enroll for the term of "planned re-entry" without submitting a formal readmission application. It will be the student's responsibility to inform the study abroad coordinator of any change to her/his planned re-entry date.

Programs of study that have been deactivated or terminated are not available for readmission. Students who were enrolled in a program of study that has since been deactivated are eligible for readmission to the Institute; however, they must select an active program at the time of readmission.
Any student, except a part-time graduate student, who withdraws during an academic term and wishes to return the following academic term must complete a Petition to the Faculty for consideration. This petition must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar before the deadline for the academic term for which readmission is requested.
A student who is on expulsion, defined as permanent separation from the Institute, is not eligible for readmission.
With the exception of a course from which a student withdrew and received a grade of "W " or " V ," in no case will a student be awarded transfer credit for a course she/he completed at another institution if she/he had previously taken the course at Georgia Tech.
If you drop your course (s) by the 3rd day you have: No academic penalty. No tuition or fee charges. No Financial Aid awarded. After the 3rd day of the term students not able to complete a course (s) must complete a Drop Classes Form online through the Student Portal. If you withdraw, be aware:
The student will be responsible for paying the balance of tuition, fees and book charges not covered by the prorated Title IV and other aid received.
A student may withdraw from courses up until the final week of classes. A student cannot withdraw from a course during the final week of the term.
Students who stop participating in class, but do not formally withdraw, may receive a grade of F and face financial aid repercussions in upcoming semesters.
Any enrolled student who has not participated in class assignments by the designated No Show Deadline each term will be will be dropped from the course.
A Stop Payment on a check does not constitute a formal withdrawal nor does it cancel the student’s financial obligation. An outstanding balance consisting of these fees plus a returned check fee will still be owed to Georgia Piedmont Tech.
Due to the varied demands of individual programs, some classes may have specific contact or instructional hour requirements. It is the student’s responsibility to review specific program and course policies.
For students withdrawing from school, a calculation is made on any financial aid received to determine whether a student who completely withdraws during a term has "earned" the monies disbursed. Students "earn" their aid based on the period of time they were enrolled.
Institutional charges are refunded up to the point in time that the percentage equals 60 percent . Students who withdraw from the Institute when the calculated percentage of completion is greater than 60 percent are not entitled to a refund of any portion of institutional charges.
Most students will complete one course per semester, so the certificate will take four semesters to complete. Core courses will be offered in Georgia Tech’s fall and spring semesters, but elective courses may also be available in Georgia Tech’s summer semester.
The degree you receive will be identical to one earned in an on-campus program. There will not be an "online" designation on diplomas awarded to students who completed their degree program online.

Most courses are free, though there is a small fee if you opt to work towards a certificate of completion. Some courses count toward university credit—and some, like our online master’s program in computer science, offer a full degree. These credit-bearing courses do have fees associated with them.

Generally, yes. Depending on the type of course or program you're enrolled in, your access to instructors may vary both in how you are able to contact them and how quickly they may respond. This largely depends on the number of students enrolled in a course, the course's structure, and the preferences of the individual instructor.
The reason the student wishes to drop the course and when the student plans to retake the course. It is recommended that a student allow 24 hours for processing any withdrawal request, so students must be aware of all deadlines for individual course drops.
A student must completely withdraw from school, by the deadline, in order to qualify for a refund. Students who are full time (at least 12 hours) and withdraw from a course (s) which takes them below 12 hours, will no longer be considered full time.

All individual core courses within the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering curriculum cannot be dropped through OSCAR. Due to the strict prerequisites enforced by the School, any student who wishes to drop a CHBE course must seek permission from an academic advisor or the associate chair of undergraduate studies. Students should send an email to the advisor or associate chair that contains the following information:
If the student is found responsible for any prohibited academic conduct , he/she will not be allowed to drop the class. If the student is found responsible for any prohibited academic conduct in a class, he/she will also not be allowed to withdraw from the term.
If there is an alleged academic integrity violation pending, the student may not drop the class. The status of the alleged violation is defined as “pending” when an incident has been submitted to the office of student integrity and has generated an electronic “suspected academic misconduct” notice that has been sent to the student. If the student is found responsible for any prohibited academic conduct, he/she will not be allowed to drop the class.
