Homosexual behavior is a symptomatic attempt to “repair” the original wound that left the boy alienated from the innate masculinity that he has failed to claim. This differentiates it from heterosexuality, which arises naturally from undisturbed gender-identity development.
For example, the first ecumenical council to condemn homosexual sex, Lateran III of 1179, stated “Whoever shall be found to have committed that incontinence which is against nature” shall be punished, the severity of which depended upon whether the transgressor was a cleric or layperson (quoted in Boswell, 1980, 277).
But words matter, in all debates. Homophobia should be reserved for those who have an irrational hate for homosexuals, and not for those who want to follow the second commandment and want them to be saved and go to heaven.
Since homosexual activity is not approved, the person may not engage in any sort of sexual activity: “Homosexual persons are called to chastity.” Here the catechism means celibate chastity, since every person is called to the chaste expression of love—even married couples.
The method that the authors use is a rather simple one: examining maternal reports of fetal loss and birth weights. The logic here is that higher rates of fetal loss and lower birth weights both index perturbations in development.
The Old Testament is all about the survival of the children of Israel as a culture, that is their goal: lots and lots of offspring. These days overpopulation of all cultures is a real issue, so it doesn't surprise me that homosexuality isn't a big deal anymore, at least in countries that are more secularized.
Secondly, if you look over your argument, you are deeply ambiguous. The elements of innate disposition and psychological choice, or free will, are juxtaposed in your understanding. You are not connecting them. Also, you have subtly put them in an ordinal hierarchy where the innate is slightly over the choice factor.
The logic underlying the Lady Gaga song "Born This Way" commits firmly to the naturalistic fallacy. Specifically, many aspects of the development of homosexuality (both the male and female varieties) are not as well understood as they should be to make some of the claims that many people felt confident expressing.
The extent to which this complicates the maternal immune hypothesis is hard to say: it could be possible that one twin tends to get exposed to the brunt of these maternal antibodies despite both being approximately as vulnerable to them, but that remains to be seen. article continues after advertisement.
There are many kinds of sexual attitudes that are homosexual and that may be related to testosterone production, but testosterone does not affect sexual object choice or sexual aim, learning experiences do. Perhaps the author meant that the mother's immune system affects maternal bonding to her infant.
Different studies by different researchers are replicating the conclusion that sexual preference or orientation is not a conscious decision, it's innate, which also explains why there is a spectrum from, like, 100% heterosexual to 50-50% or bisexual to 100% homosexual.
Sexuality, Gender and Justice . The researchers found five single points in the genome that seemed to be common among people who had had at least one same-sex experience. Two of these genetic markers sit close to genes linked to sex hormones and to smell—both factors that may play a role in sexual attraction.
Sara Reardon is a freelance journalist based in Bozeman, Mont. She is a former staff reporter at Nature, New Scientist and Science and has a master's degree in molecular biology.
Despite the associations, the authors say that the genetic similarities still cannot show whether a given individual is gay. “It’s the end of the ’gay gene,’” says Eric Vilain, a geneticist at Children’s National Health System in Washington, D.C., who was not involved in the study.
Analysis of half a million people suggests genetics may have a limited contribution to sexual orientation. Few aspects of human biology are as complex—or politically fraught—as sexual orientation. A clear genetic link would suggest that gay people are “born this way,” as opposed to having made a lifestyle choice.
Now, a new study claims to dispel the notion that a single gene or handful of genes make a person prone to same-sex behavior. The analysis, which examined the genomes of nearly half a million men and women, found that although genetics are certainly involved in who people choose to have sex with, there are no specific genetic predictors.
“A lot of people want to understand the biology of homosexuality, and science has lagged behind that human interest,” says William Rice, an evolutionary geneticist at the University of California, Santa Barbara, who also was not involved in the work.
Here the catechism means celibate chastity, since every person is called to the chaste expression of love—even married couples.
The third rhetorical device is to say the science is settled ("as any reputable... will agree").
Beyond the catechism, in his recent apostolic exhortation “Amoris Laetitia ,” Pope Francis made three points related to the issue of homosexuality. First, the pope reiterated the church’s opposition to equating same-sex marriage with traditional marriage between a man and a woman.
They get arrested for speaking up for the unborn, or for not supporting gay marriage. One is lionized for coming out sexually, and parading pride in one's new found sexual libertinism. A priest who advocates for LGBT acceptance and approval is not pilloried by the Church, but is praised by the public.
2. Cynthia Nixon (NYT 1/12/12), age 45 , 2 children, split from their father Daniel Mozes in 2003, a year later began a relationship with Christine Marinoni, who, with the help of a male friend Nixon will not identify, conceived a son (born Feb-2011).
Its Aristotelian telos, or endpoint, should be obvious both to our eyes and to our reason. For example, an acorn is quite obviously “ordered” toward becoming an oak tree. A child is “ordered” toward becoming an adult. Likewise, every act is judged according to whether it is properly oriented toward its proper end.
For centuries, across cultures, races and religions, the traditional family was considered paramount to a healthy, happy, holy and moral society and was universally understood as a life-long bond between one man and one woman, for the primary purpose of having and raising children.
When implanted into the woman’s womb, his seed produces human life. But in homosexual sex, the seed of life can only result in decay and death. In the natural sex act, the human race is preserved, and the man lives on through future generations.
Anal intercourse, as a violation of our bodily design, is unhealthy and anatomically destructive, damaging the rectum and spreading disease because the rectal tissues are fragile and porous. Psychologically, the act humiliates and demeans a man’s dignity and masculinity.
Many gay men report sexual abuse by a same-sexed person during their boyhood. Sexual molestation is abuse, because it comes disguised as love. Here is one client’s account of an older teen who molested him: I wanted love and attention, and it got all mixed up with sex.
Thus, homosexuality is inherently rooted in conflict: conflict about the acceptance of one’s natural gender, conflict in the parent-child relationship, and usually , conflict regarding ostracism by same-sex peers. This means we will see the emergence of dominance-submission themes contaminating gay relationships.
Bipolar Disorder is more than five times greater than heterosexual men. Conduct Disorder is almost four times greater (3.8) than heterosexual men. Agoraphobia (fear of being in public places) is more than six and a half times greater than among heterosexual men.
Gay men engage in the sadistic practices at much higher rates than do heterosexual men. The incidence of mood disorders and anxiety disorders is almost three times greater among gay men. Panic Disorder is more than four times greater than for heterosexual men.
Joseph Nicolosi. As a psychologist treating homosexually oriented men, I’ve watched with dismay as the LGBT movement has convinced the world that “gay” requires a revised understanding of the human person. The psychological profession is much to blame for this shift. Once, it was generally agreed that normality is “that which functions in ...
A central issue raised by queer theory, which will be discussed below, is whether homosexuality, and hence also heterosexuality and bisexuality, is socially constructed or purely driven by biological forces. 1. History.
Hence the cultural ideal of a same-sex relationship was between an older man, probably in his 20s or 30s, known as the erastes , and a boy whose beard had not yet begun to grow, the eromenos or paidika.
Probably the most important secular domain for discussions of homosexuality was in medicine, including psychology. This discourse, in turn, linked up with considerations about the state and its need for a growing population, good soldiers, and intact families marked by clearly defined gender roles.
Finally, perhaps the most significant recent social change involving homosexuality is the emergence of the gay liberation movement in the West.
While the passive role was thus seen as problematic, to be attracted to men was often taken as a sign of masculinity. Greek gods, such as Zeus, had stories of same-sex exploits attributed to them, as did other key figures in Greek myth and literature, such as Achilles and Hercules.
Yet the Dutch, in the 1730s, mounted a harsh anti-sodomy campaign (alongside an anti-Roma pogrom), even using torture to obtain confessions. As many as one hundred men and boys were executed and denied burial (Greenberg, 1988, 313–4).
Thebes did form such a regiment, the Sacred Band of Thebes, formed of 500 soldiers. They were renowned in the ancient world for their valor in battle. Ancient Rome had many parallels to ancient Greece in its understanding of same-sex attraction, and sexual issues more generally.
Lesbian, gay and bisexual people who want to help reduce prejudice and discrimination can be open about their sexual orientation, even as they take necessary precautions to be as safe as possible. They can examine their own belief systems for the presence of antigay stereotypes.
This perspective is incomplete because sexual orientation is defined in terms of relationships with others.
Sexual orientation refers to an enduring pattern of emotional, romantic and/or sexual attractions to men, women or both sexes. Sexual orientation also refers to a person's sense of identity based on those attractions, related behaviors and membership in a community of others who share those attractions.
In the United States the most frequent labels are lesbians (women attracted to women), gay men (men attracted to men), and bisexual people (men or women attracted to both sexes). However, some people may use different labels or none at all.
The discipline of psychology is concerned with the well-being of people and groups and therefore with threats to that well-being. The prejudice and discrimination that people who identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual regularly experience have been shown to have negative psychological effects. This pamphlet is designed to provide accurate information ...
People express their sexual orientation through behaviors with others, including such simple actions as holding hands or kissing. Thus, sexual orientation is closely tied to the intimate personal relationships that meet deeply felt needs for love, attachment and intimacy.
Since 1975, the American Psychological Association has called on psychologists to take the lead in removing the stigma of mental illness that has long been associated with lesbian, gay and bisexual orientations. The discipline of psychology is concerned with the well-being of people and groups and therefore with threats to that well-being.
