Jumpers courses consist of 14-20 obstacles made up of jumps, tunnels and weave poles. Course layouts and times change based on the dog’s class. As with standard courses, “Qualifying” conditions are based on the dog’s title class. Jumpers courses have the same regular and preferred divisions and classes as standard courses.
An agility course is made up of a series of obstacles, usually 14-20 depending on the class and level of competition. The big ramp-style obstacles are collectively known as the contact obstacles because they all have “contact zones” (usually painted a bright yellow) that the dog must touch with at least one toenail when descending. The following list explains the basic agility equipment you will find in the ring:
If you’ve ever watched an agility competition, you know it’s basically a canine obstacle course. The dog must run through tunnels, leap over jumps, and weave through poles. But the dog isn’t working alone – this is a sport of exquisite teamwork. A successful run requires taking each obstacle in a certain order, and the dog relies on his handler to tell him what that is. That makes dog agility an exciting celebration of canine athleticism and the dog-human bond.
Even dogs with problem behavior can benefit because agility teaches them that there are rules in life and following those rules leads to great rewards. With patient training, even anxious dogs can gain confidence and conquer their fears. After all, if they can run over a seesaw, the rest of the world seems less scary.
“Agility taught her self-control and how to work for things she wanted in a socially acceptable way. She thrived in agility and worked out her issues to such an extent that she ended up being a really great therapy dog .”.
Start by throwing the toy or bag over the jump so your dog can chase after it, jumping the obstacle as he goes. Once he understands the game, you can add a verbal cue like “Go” and start adding distance a little bit at a time. Don’t forget to play this game with your dog starting on both your right and left sides.
Besides encouraging focus, it’s key to teach your dog to work at both your right and left sides. Most trick training is done with the dog right in front of the owner , so dogs learn this is a great place to be. After all, they get most of their treats in that position. For agility, you need to convince your dog to move beside you.
They can be either straight or curved, and the dog must enter at one end and exit at the other. Weave Poles are a series of six to 12 upright poles spaced out along a straight line. The dog must enter to the right of the first pole and weave through the others without missing a pole.
Types of Agility Courses. Agility courses include Standard courses, Jumpers with Weaves (JWW), Fifteen and Send (FAST), Time to Beat (T2B) and Premier.
Competing in your first agility trials involve long and exhausting days. But the rewards of competing with your dog … celebrating the bonding and teamwork between you … is incredibly fulfilling.

Successfully completing the course means: 1 the team completes all obstacles in the correct order, 2 the dog doesn’t knock a jump bar to the floor, 3 the dog completes contact obstacles correctly, and 4 the team does all this in under the maximum course time.

AKC provides a 101-page guide of the rules for Agility Trials (also called competitions). Here’s a summary of key points. However, if you plan to compete in AKC Agility Trials, you should download and read the rules. (You can use the link to go to the download page.)
If the dog doesn’t successfully complete an obstacle, they don’t earn points for it. This course is designed for speed. It has a standard course time and a maximum time. The dog must cross the finish before the first horn, or they will lose points for each second over time.
Having a high Agility level while using a low Agility course (compared to your level) is going to reduce the chance of failing an obstacle and sometimes prevent failing any obstacle in the course at all. But it is always better to bring any kind of food so you can recover from the falling damage if occurred.
The Al Kharid Course is the second Rooftop Course in our guide, so pay attention to the Marks of Grace. The course location is inside the Al Kharid town, and the starting point is at the north of the Tanner. Bringing Food and Stamina/Energy potions is recommended.
Resource packs come in three types: Herb pack, Seed pack, and Mineral pack. The first one costs 30 points while the other two cost 15 points each. They require you to have a minimum level of 25 in Herblore, Farming, or Mining.
There are other Agility courses where you can gain higher experience starting from level 47 Agility, but it is recommended to stay in the Canifis Agility Course until level 60 (rather than 47) for the sake of obtaining the Graceful outfit quickly.
Different portals are vulnerable to different attack styles. West Portal is vulnerable to Ranged, East to Magic, Southeast to Slash, Southwest to Crush.
Agility is one of the hard P2P (requires a membership to unlock) to train skills as it takes a very long time to reach a certain level, thus people just find it exhausting if they don’t know the fastest and best way to train Agility.
Agility training involves a lot of point-clicking and it can take a lot of focus to maximise experience gain. Higher Agility level increases one's ability to regenerate run energy and grants access to various shortcuts. Players should always run and use stamina potions if necessary in order to maximise experience rates.
Players training here should risk as little as possible because of the possibility of encountering player killers. Stamina potions are recommended to be used always, and some food is also recommended not only to defend against player killers, but also for those with low agility who will fail the course often. A knife would also be a good choice as it would allow players to cut the webs leading to the Mage Arena bank. As most players will most likely not have the full Graceful set bonus by this level, bringing the minimum to have negative carry weight is optimal (also, even if one did have the full Graceful set bonus, one would never take those to the Wilderness). It may be wise to only wear Boots of lightness as they are very easy to replace, instead of risking Graceful pieces that take significant time to obtain.
The Ardougne Rooftop Course offers a profitable and a less click-intensive training option from level 90 onwards. This course also has the highest spawn rate of marks of grace, which is increased by 25% after completion of the elite tier of the Ardougne Diary. With the elite diary completed and at maximum experience rates, players can expect around 22.5 marks of grace per hour, making the hourly profit 218,700 coins.
Players can gain up to 52,600 experience per hour, although players are more likely to see rates of around 45,000–50,000 experience per hour including fails.
Training on this course yields up to 13,200 experience per hour, each lap yielding 238 experience. It will take 99 laps to get from level 30 to 40, including fails.
The Rellekka course becomes superior to the Seers' Village course for collecting marks of grace at level 80, because the drop rate for marks of grace at the Seers' Village course is reduced to 20% of its normal rate at that level. At level 80 players may fail the course often reducing experience rates, so it is recommended to boost with summer pies.
Training on the Al Kharid Rooftop Course yields up to 9,360 experience per hour when using stamina potions, each lap yielding 180 experience. It will take roughly 50 laps to reach level 30.
