Anyone performing US Department of Transportation (DOT) mandated breath alcohol testing must be trained as a Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT), and individuals performing non-DOT regulated testing are encouraged to do the same.

WHat is required to become a Breath Alcohol Technician?

The BAT candidate must understand and demonstrate proficiency in using the alcohol testing protocol detailed in 49 CFR Part 40 and includes the DOT's rule change that took effect January 1, 2018. The training must be in accordance with the DOT Model BAT Course.

Over the last 15 years I have been involved with various training programs for breath alcohol technicians (BAT) and urine specimen collectors. I recently had the opportunity to complete the web based on line training provided by Lifeloc Technologies.

Training Programs

This section includes a list of current NACP Pre-Approved Training Programs by State as well as instructions for obtaining pre-approval for your victim assistance introductory advocacy training. In addition, Training Requirements and Instructions for NACP Applicants are provided.

NACP PRE-APPROVED TRAINING PROGRAMS

These organizations have submitted their forty-hour training curricula to the NACP Review Committee for review and pre-approval and are responsible to inform NACP of any changes in their training hours and topics.

NACP PRE-APPROVAL OF TRAINING PROGRAMS

Any program providing Introductory Victim Advocacy training may submit its curriculum for pre-approval by the National Advocate Credentialing Program (NACP) as meeting the minimum standards for a basic advocacy training. Your training must include a minimum of forty (40) hours and all of the basic or foundation level topics listed below.
