Registered behavior technician (RBT) certification requires a passing score on the RBT exam. You can retake the exam as many times as you like, though you are limited to eight attempts within each one-year authorization period you are granted.
RBT requirements state you must be supervised at least 5% of the time you are providing ABA services each month. This must include at least two, face-to-face contacts each month, during which the supervisor observes the RBT® performing ABA services.
Structure. Each RBT must obtain ongoing supervision for a minimum of 5% of the hours spent providing applied behavior-analytic services per month. The BACB ® requires that you complete your RBT ® training within 180 days. To earn a valid certificate that you can use to apply for the RBT ® registry, you must complete your course within 180 days. Extensions are not available.

The BACB requires that all RBT applicants: Are at least 18 years of age. Have a high school diploma or national equivalent. Pass a background check equivalent to that needed for employment in schools or child care centers. Don’t go on to complete the steps below if you don’t meet the above requirements. 1.
You must demonstrate understanding of each of the skills either through interview, role-play, or with a client. The BACB requires that at least 3 skills be demonstrated with a client. The RBT is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of behavior-analytic services. RBTs shares the same role as ABA technicians; however, they carry the RBT credential, which is a nationally recognized professional credential that requires more extensive training.
