As a general rule, greens, blues, and purples are cool colors. But in practice, all colors contain cool and warm tones – it’s part of what makes the world of color so rich and varied. So while you can use this “all greens, blues, and purples are cool” rule as a starting point, it ultimately depends on what shade you’re working with.
Pops of warm tones can energize, create a sense of urgency, and draw the eye toward focal points. Because cool colors recede, you can use this to your advantage to create dimension. For example, paint distant mountains in cool tones and nearby objects in warmer tones.
Another core principle is harnessing the psychological power of warm and cool colors and the feelings they can evoke. As most of us know, each color temperature can evoke specific feelings in people. However, the human response to color varies a lot per individual and society.
They evoke a sense of calmness, harmony, stability, and relaxation. While blue, green, and purple are excellent relaxing colors, they can also be warm colors. Regardless, the general idea is the warm colors are Red, Orange and Yellow; and the cool colors are Green, Blue and Magenta (Figure 2).
Blue and green are cool colors. These cool colors create a calming energy in an artwork. Violet/purple can be both warm and cool depending on how much red or how much blue is in the violet.
Cool colors are shades of green, blue, and purple. The only primary color is blue, so any hue with a blue undertone is considered a cool color. They're called cool colors, as opposed to warm colors, because they are evocative of water.

As opposed to the bright and sunny warmth of a LIGHT COOL neutral, the LIGHT COOL soft is flowing into the SOFT COOL instead. This sub-group will usually have either, blue, grey, grey-blue, slate, grey-green, or green eyes. They might have blue, or a mix of blue and green veins without being a warm group.
As a rule, neutral colors such as white, black, grey are considered neither warm nor cool. However, a color may appear to lean more toward one side of the spectrum, depending on its undertones. For instance, a cream color with a yellow undertone will appear warm, while a grey with blue undertones may seem cool.
The cool tones or cool color names include blue, green, and indigo or violet colors. When looking at color as light, cold colors tend to have shorter wavelengths than warm colors. This makes blue a difficult color to see when you compare it to red or green. So, that is your basic cool colors definition.
Compared with colors on the cool side of the color wheel, such as blue and purple, yellow is always warm. However, yellow has warm and cool variants. Warm yellow has an orange undertone, which is its underlying hue bias, while cool yellow has a green undertone.
Cool colours are green, blue and purple while warm colours are red, orange, yellow, cream, brown, tan and olive. “Earth tones” are warm colours, though warm colours encompass a wider range of colours.
