90 minutesYou'll have 90 minutes to complete the exam. There are 85 computer-based questions on the RBT exam, 75 of which make up your final score.
The BACB uses their own method of identifying a passing score based on the exam information. Generally, you want to get 80% or more of the questions on the exam correct, or at least 68 of the questions on the RBT exam.
If you do not pass the exam on your first attempt, you are able to retake it. Of the candidates who decide to retake the exam, roughly 50% of them pass on their next attempt. You can retake the exam as many times as you need to in order to pass it.
The RBT test is comprised of 85 multiple-choice questions. Only 75 of them count toward scoring though since 10 are trial questions used to creating newer tests. Each question only has one correct answer.
A registered behavior technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional who undergoes formal training and passes a national certification exam. Once certified, RBTs work under the close supervision of board certified behavior analysts (BCBAs) to deliver behavior analysis services, primarily to people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
The 40-hour RBT training is designed to equip individuals with the skills they need in order to be competent practitioners in the field of behavior analysis. Completing an RBT program helps ensure that you have the knowledge and skills necessary for delivering safe and effective behavior analysis services.
If you are already employed by a behavior analysis organization, you may begin your search for a training program by speaking with your supervisor about any in-house training opportunities. Many organizations encourage professional development through training workshops for employees.
The decision to complete an online or in-person training program depends on your personal needs and goals. There are pros and cons to both methods of training delivery, but overall, they can both be effective ways to learn the essential information you need to become an RBT.
RBT training courses are designed for the professional development of people hoping to become credentialed behavior technicians, but they can benefit anyone who wants to learn more about the field of behavior analysis. Anyone working with children with autism can benefit from gaining skills in the field of behavior analysis.
The RBT is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of behavior-analytic services. RBTs shares the same role as ABA technicians; however, they carry the RBT credential, which is a nationally recognized professional credential that requires more extensive training.
