The Dental Radiology Certificate Program will explore the basics of dental radiology, including x-ray physics, characteristics of radiation, the dental x-ray machine, effects of radiation exposure, radiation protection, image receptors, digital radiography, dental radiographic anatomy, and intra and extra-oral radiographic procedures.
A radiology certificate of compliance with the G.S.90-29c (12) will be awarded to those who attend all 14 hours of instruction, and pass the dental radiology written exam. All dental auxiliary staff are eligible for attendance.
Satisfactorily complete a radiation safety course and exam given by an institution that maintains a CODA-accredited dental assisting, dental hygiene, or dentistry program, OR 2. Earn certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), OR 3.

The majority of x-ray technicians complete their Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) certification. The exam will focus on anatomy, radiography facts, and safety procedures.
Most radiography technicians have other duties than x-rays alone. Usually, you will work as a dental assistant or hygienist and do x-rays as part of your daily tasks. Some states will let you begin work in an office as a dental assistant without any formal training.

Expenses beyond the cost of tuition, fees, and books include any costs associated with medical paperwork ( Dr. appointment, vaccinations) scrubs, exam fee ($250), and miscellaneous supplies—approximately $400.

To qualify as a dental assistant II (DA II) by education, one must: 1. Hold current certification as a DANB Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), AND. 2. Successfully complete board-approved expanded functions requirements from a CODA-accredited program, AND. 3.
To qualify for registration as a DA II by endorsement, one must: 1. Hold current DANB CDA certification or certification from another national credentialing organization recognized by the American Dental Association, AND. 2.
There are no education or training requirements for this level of dental assisting. (2) Current certification as a certified anesthesia assistant by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) or the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA).
The board interprets these provisions to permit someone to complete one or more of the modules to qualify for registration. An applicant does not have to complete all four modules. However, the educational institution offering the dental assistant II program has the discretion to decide how to structure its program.
