Best bar prep course

Which is the best bar prep course? Why? I want one where I dont have to sit in front of lectures all day but can simply read the materials, transcripts etc.

Re: Best bar prep course

For me, its hard to say which is the best as I've only taken the California Bar once and therefore only used one Bar prep program. I used Barbri and I relied heavily on their Mini Outline for memorization and their MBE practice questions. I only did the 3 or 5 graded practice essays/PT that came with the program.

Re: Best bar prep course

The major ones - Barbri, Kaplan, Themis - are all organized around watching lectures, although they also provide extensive written outlines.

Re: Best bar prep course

I think all of the major bar prep courses have a lecture component to them. However, for Barbri at least, you can just read through the lecture handout (which is in one of the books you're provided) if you'd rather not sit through the lectures. At the end of the day, the substance of the outlines isn't going to differ much from course to course.

Re: Best bar prep course

I liked Themis although their outlines are really boring. Themis, Adapitbar, and Critical Pass cards got me a great score. Videos largely didn't seem helpful to me but I passed so who knows. I think this is a great combo.

Re: Best bar prep course

Barbri was a total waste of my money. You're best off buying the books off of someone to do work in, getting Adaptibar for the bar questions, and finding a cheap way to get lecture content or going with a cheaper option like Themis. maaaajorly regret all the money on barbri.

Advice for bar prep for third time bar exam taker

Hey I just got my NY bar exam results back and I found out that I failed again. I took Barbri twice now. Almost the same result. I went down by one point actually. I am not sure what course to use for taking it once again now. I know there is a course named Themis that is less expensive. I am not working right now so money is a big factor for me.

REPEAT BAR TAKER NEEDS ADVICE

Hi, so any constructive advice would be helpful, especially from a repeat taker. Here is my story. I graduated and took the VA bar in July and Feb, I took Barbri. I failed the first time by a few points, so I took it again in Feb and than failed by a larger margin. I followed their homework plan, did everything and had positive feedback.

Re: REPEAT BAR TAKER NEEDS ADVICE

Hey, sorry to hear that you failed. I finally passed the bar on my 4th attempt so I know what you're going through. I shared my journey and provided some useful advice in the following thread:

Re: REPEAT BAR TAKER NEEDS ADVICE

I took California, failed the first time, passed the second time. I think the lack of confidence thing is a big factor that people underestimate, it had a big impact on me after I didn't pass the first time.

Re: REPEAT BAR TAKER NEEDS ADVICE

There is so much advice to give and so many variables based on individual strengths and weakness, so this is always a very difficult question to answer.

Re: REPEAT BAR TAKER NEEDS ADVICE

I'm sorry to hear that you failed! I also failed, so would love any advice offered by other posters. This was my first time taking the MD bar and I took Shemer, so I am trying to incorporate some new strategies. At least we're not alone - but it really is am emotional mess to go through ugh!!!
