A student may drop a course during the first week of the term without academic penalty. A course drop during this time does not appear on the student’s transcript and does not affect the grade point average (GPA).
Students are responsible for adhering to the dates below for canceling or withdrawing from Summer courses. Withdrawal deadlines are broken down by section. Visit the Schedule of Classes to determine the section of your course. Please note, withdrawals are completed by the Registrar's Office either in person, by phone, or by email.
When you find a course you want, click the check box in the Select column then click the Register button at the bottom of the page. Note the check box at the bottom of the page that says Show Open Classes Only. Uncheck the box if you’d like to include filled courses in your search. Click on Student Menu > Registration Menu > Add/Drop Classes.
You cannot drop your last class. Doing so means that you are completely withdrawing from the term. If you need to drop a class you've already registered for, click on the drop-down box next to the course in your schedule. Select Drop CRN and click the Submit button at the bottom of the page.

To drop classes, navigate to Duckweb > Student Menu > Registration Menu. There you can drop individual courses.

Students are eligible to change their major at any time, however, it is imperative to speak with an advisor first before changing a major. Go to the main office of the department that oversees the major you want to declare. Then, request an appointment with an advisor in that department.

Oregon State University defines a term (also referred to as a "quarter") as one-third of the academic year, not counting summer. Terms at OSU are divided into fall, winter and spring terms and consist of 10 weeks each, with an additional week for final exams.

Administrative Course Withdrawal. Students who do not participate in a course by the end of the 4th week of the term, or who may have participated minimally but earned no credit for any graded assessments , may be subject to an Administrative Withdrawal from the course.
Students may also formally withdraw from the course roster after the course drop period has passed, but must do so within the first four weeks of the term. A course withdrawal differs from a course drop in that the course is listed on the student’s official transcript.

Only the most serious circumstances warrant withdrawing from a course after the last day of the withdrawal deadline listed in the Academic Calendar above. However, in the event of a documented emergency after the Course Withdrawal deadline, students may petition the Student Affairs Committee for a late withdrawal.

If your course begins on a Thursday or later, select a Thursday Course Start Date. For courses starting in Week 1 or Week 5 and ending Week 8, select August 15, 2021 as the Course End Date.
UO runs the course evaluation process three times throughout the summer: at the end of week 4, at the end of week 8; and at then end of week 11. Only courses of three or four weeks in duration, ending in week 4, 8, or 11 are included in the course evaluation process for summer.
Canceled Classes. If a class is canceled, students are informed that the class is unavailable for registration. If a cancellation occurs after students have already registered, they will be dropped from the class and notified by the department.
If, with special approval, a student is permitted to register after the add deadline, the late registration fee is $25.00-$50.00. Students approved for late registration after the fourth week of classes may be charged $100.00.
Once your start time has passed, you can log into DuckWeb as often as you want to register for classes. DuckWeb is available 24 hours a day except during maintenance and upgrade windows (Friday evenings from 7-11 p.m. and the second weekend of each month).
Courses are offered as Graded only, Pass/No Pass only, or Optional Grading. Grading options for each course are listed in the Class Schedule. Some courses require that majors take the course for a grade while allowing non-majors a choice of grading options.
Students who do not drop before the 100% tuition refund period ends will owe at least partial tuition and/or course fees. It is to the student's advantage to drop classes promptly. ( See also: Refund Schedules) Students are expected to attend and pay for all classes in which they are registered.
