Summer 2022 | General enrolment period | March 7, 2022 - 6:00 am for all students |
Course enrolment for other campuses opens at 6AM. Arts & Science students can add UTM/UTSC courses, and UTM/UTSC students can add Arts & Science courses.
Some courses may allow you to enrol after a certain date if you do not meet the initial criteria, other controls may not be lifted. If a lecture section is full, you can add yourself to a waitlist (if available). The waitlist is an electronic queue that lets you get into a class if space becomes available.
Read the Delivery Instructions: It is important to refer to the Timetable for up-to-date course delivery instructions ahead of and during the enrolment period. At your course enrolment start time, you can start enrolling in the courses you have chosen. Log into ACORN and begin enrolling in courses using the Search or the Enrolment Cart .
When you can enrol in your courses depends on your year of study. For the Fall/Winter Session, course enrolment begins in July. And for the Summer Session, course enrolment begins in March. Your enrolment start time will be posted on ACORN in the months before your classes begin.

Full-time status A student enrolled in 3.0 credits or more in the Fall/Winter Session is full-time. A student enrolled in 1.5 credits or more in the Summer Session is full-time.
Students are limited to a term load of six courses in each of the Fall and Winter terms; those who exceed this term load limit will be removed from excess courses. The maximum course load during the Summer session is two courses (2.0 FCEs).
If you are seeing an "Enrolment Blocked" message on ACORN, search it in the Timetable and read the enrolment controls. Some will not open. Yes, it means that after today, if the course is not full, it will open to students with a Major in the program listed. It is restricted at all times for the Winter session, yes.
At most universities, you are able to study at least two subjects at the same time. For example, you might be able to study a course in both English and history. Sometimes, you can even study three, so it's worth checking with each university directly.
If you failed a course then you can retake it for credit. The failed grade will not be removed or averaged; rather both the failed grade and the new grade are calculated into the GPA and included on your academic transcript.
The codes “Y1” or “H1” in a course code in the Calendar indicate the credit value: Y1 = a full course, for which one credit is given, e.g., ANT 100Y1. H1 = a half-course, for which one-half credit is given, e.g., HIS 322 H1.
5A full-course load per semester is 5 (0,5 units of credit) courses or 2.5 credits. Graduate level: There is no one standard number of courses or credit units students must take per semester or during their entire degree.
Full-time studies: a standard course load is 2.5 credits per semester, although students who enrol in 1.5 credits or more are considered full-time. If you wish to graduate in four years, you must pass 2.5 credits in two of the three semesters (Fall, Winter, Summer). Part-time studies: 0.5 - 1.0 credit per semester.

Extra Courses. Extra courses appear on a student's academic record with a final course mark and are noted as "EXT". Extra courses do not count for degree credit and are not included in calculating a student's Grade Point Average.
If, however, the second attempt would be marked Extra due to an exclusion, that Extra status must remain. The second attempt must be taken in September 2021 or later; this policy does not apply to courses taken as a second attempt prior to September 2021.
Pre-requisites and co-requisites are established by academic units to ensure that students enrolling a course have the necessary academic preparation to be successful. Students are responsible for fulfilling prerequisites and co-requisites, and if they enroll in a course for which they do not have the published prerequisites or co-requisite, it is at the discretion of the academic unit to cancel their enrolment in the course at any time during the enrolment period. If students withdraw from a course, they must also withdraw from any course for which it is a co-requisite unless the academic unit offering the latter course agrees to waive the co-requisite.
The recommended course load for full-time students who are in good standing in each of the Fall and Winter terms is no more than 2.5 credits; the maximum course load in each term is 3.0 credits. During the priority period of enrolment students’ maximum course load, included waitlisted courses, is 2.5 credits; once the priority period has ended, students may enrol in/waitlist for an additional 0.5 credit to the maximum of 3.0 credits. Special consideration will not be granted on the basis of enrolment in more than the recommended maximum.
ii) Students may repeat up to 1.0 credit in courses which they have already obtained credit, for reasons other than to meet a minimum mark for entry to a limited enrolment program or for course prerequisite purposes. The repeated course will be designated Extra ; extra courses do not contribute to grade point average calculations or to the overall number of degree credits. Students may not use this one-time-only allowance to subsequently repeat a passed course again after having repeated the same course for reasons noted in i) above, i.e., they may repeat a specific passed course only once.
The maximum course load for students who are in good standing during the Summer Session is 1.0 credit per term.
Students should initiate the procedure well in advance of the beginning of classes, so that they may choose alternate courses if permission is not granted. If permission is granted, the academic unit that will count the course towards a program will arrange to enrol the student in the course (unless enrolment has already taken place.)
First day of Fall and Winter course enrolment for second-year students (4.0 - 8.5 credits) July 23, 2020.
Non-enrolment day. You cannot use ACORN to add, change, or drop courses. August 4, 2021. First day of course enrolment for St. George campus (downtown) students who are not enrolled the Faculty of Arts & Science.
How to enrol in courses 1 Full-time = 1.5 credits or more per session 2 Part-time = fewer than 1.5 credits per session
Try to finalize your courses by the end of the first week of classes. Your schedule should not have meeting sections at the same time - these are conflicts. Conflicts will be highlighted in red and must be adjusted.
Degree students can login to ACORN to check their start time by clicking on “Enrol & Manage” from the Academics Menu. Your start time will indicate when you can begin adding courses. You can make changes to your timetable before the semester begins, but you should enrol early as courses fill quickly.
If you no longer want a course, drop it on ACORN immediately using the “Courses” tab. Click the gear next to the course title, and select “Drop Course” from the drop-down. You are responsible for any fees associated with a course, even if you have not attended any lectures, tutorials or practicals.
There is no fee to waitlist a course. You can waitlist a maximum of 1.0 credits per session, which counts toward your total course load for that session. If you no longer want to take a course, remove yourself from the waitlist to avoid being added and charged fees. Some courses have multiple lecture sections.
If you missed the deadline to drop a course without academic penalty, your last opportunity to withdraw is by requesting a late withdrawal (LWD) on eService, the Registrar’s request system. You may use this for up to 3.0 credits throughout your studies. You must request LWD during the request period.
In-Person: The course requires attendance at a specific location and time for some or all course activities. *Subject to adjustments imposed by public health requirements for physical distancing.
A student's year of study depends upon the total number of credits that have been passed, and/or awarded as transfer credits:
A letter of permission is prior confirmation from U of T Mississauga that an intended course at another Canadian university is acceptable for transfer credit.
After course enrolment, students are required to complete their registration by paying or deferring their fees. This will change their ACORN registration status from invited to registered. A registered status will secure a student’s enrolment in the courses that they have selected.
An exclusion is a course that is deemed to have content that significantly overlaps with another course. Exclusions will be listed below the course description.
Once the academic deadline for dropping a course has passed, the only method of dropping a course without petition is by using the Late Withdrawal after the Drop Date (LWD) option online.
An administrative fee is charged for this request. All other requests should be made at the Office of the Registrar.
Enrolment in credits over the maximum must be approved prior to registration but no later than the first day of classes. The Office of the Registrar will make every effort to consult with students in unapproved course overloads. Students who enrol in more than the maximum course load without prior petition approval, may not receive accommodations for conflicting tests, assignments, lecture material, in-class participation, etc.
The Course Enrolment Workbook will guide you through a series of short videos and exercises to help you plan your first year. The fill-in-the-blank options will take you step-by-step through the process of course selection.
Taught by professors with a strong background in teaching learning strategies and academic skills, utmONE courses are for-credit first-year courses designed to help you transition to university . UtmONE courses are open to students in all disciplines.
Becoming a registered student means you have enrolled in courses AND paid the minimum tuition amount of your fees (or officially deferred them). Your fees will be posted to your invoice on ACORN in mid-July.
Visit the ISP100 Writing for University and Beyond web page for more information about the course and how to enroll. ISP100 is a required course for students who plan to major in Visual Studies, Anthropology (excluding Forensic Science), Physics or Earth Science.

The Registrar's Guide is your companion for course enrolment, registration, financial information, and more. It's a resource you can't go without.
When you can enrol in your courses depends on your year of study. For the Fall/Winter Session, course enrolment begins in July. And for the Summer Session, course enrolment begins in March. Your enrolment start time will be posted on ACORN in the months before your classes begin.
You can create a mock schedule through the Arts & Science Timetable. Just click “Add to Plan” for each course you are interested in. Don’t forget to check your maximum course limit so you don’t exceed the limit. Add courses to your cart. In ACORN, you can add your courses to your enrolment cart any time before enrolment period.
If you did not add courses to your enrolment cart, use the search function to search for courses and then enrol in them. If you encounter a course that is full, add yourself to the waitlist and try to enrol in a course from your alternative list.
