A graduate student is someone who has earned a bachelor's degree and is pursuing additional education in a specific field. More than 1,000 U.S. colleges and universities offer programs leading to a graduate degree in a wide range of fields.
Program end date is the date that your final, successfully defended and approved dissertation and all associated paperwork is accepted by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. At that point, your program is closed and your student status ends.

Technically you aren't finished until you graduate, but with some courses the graduation is 6 months+ after the last exam so to all intents and purposes it's when you finish your last exam. Just choose whichever is most convenient.
