Julius Caesar Act 1, scene 2 Summary & Analysis. Once Caesar is gone, Casca tells Brutus and Cassius that Antony offered Caesar a crown three times, and that Caesar refused it, causing the crowd to cheer, but seemed to find it harder to refuse each time, and finally had an epileptic seizure.
ACT 1. SC. 2 Set him before me. Let me see his face. 25 Fellow, come from the throng. Look upon Caesar. What sayst thou to me now?
Caesar suspects that the omens are for him and that Calpurnia is right, but his ego wins out-he wants to appear invincible, so he has to venture out of the house anyway. He is trapped by his invulnerable self-image. He justifies his behavior by claiming that fate is inevitable, and that the signs don’t necessarily apply to him.
Cassius continues to appeal to Brutus’s sense of duty toward Rome, which he symbolically equates with “the world” as a whole. Privately, he believes that the success of his cause depends on “seducing” and tricking Brutus, whose integrity far surpasses his own. Florman, Ben.
