Jesus taught His disciples how to pray (the Lord's prayer), He prayed for the little children when they were brought to Him, He prayed with Peter, James, and John, and He prayed alone. He also taught His disciples to love sinners and He demonstrated what that looked like by eating with them.

Jesus shows us that He believes that Old Testament peo-ple, places, and happenings are real. Jesus talks about what happened in Genesis 1 and 2 as real. Jesus talks about Abel (Genesis 4) as a real person too. Jesus also talks about David eating showbread as something that really happened. Showbread was a special bread in God’s house. Only the priests were allowed to eat it. Jesus talks about Elisha as a real person too. Jesus also talks about how much God’s special messengers suffered during Old Testament times (Matthew 5:12; Matthew 13:57; Matthew 23:34–36; Mark 6:4). Jesus talks about Noah. Jesus uses Noah’s story to warn us about how bad things will be in the end times (Matthew 24:38, 39). The Bible shows us that Jesus believed that Noah’s story really happened in history.
Jesus’ work for God on earth started when John the Baptist baptized Jesus. After that, the Holy Spirit led Jesus to the desert in Judea. There, Jesus did not eat any food for 40 days. After 40 days with no food, Jesus felt very weak. Then Satan came to Jesus and tried to get Jesus to sin.

Again, in Luke 24:44, 45 (ERV), “Jesus said to them, ‘Remember when I was with you before? I said that everything written about me must happen— everything written in the Law of Moses, the books of the prophets [special messengers], and the Psalms.’ Then Jesus helped the followers understand these Scriptures [the Bible] about him.” Do you see that Jesus depends on the Bible to explain truth? He shows how the things about Him were written many hundreds of years earlier. Jesus also shows His fol-lowers an important rule. Jesus wants His followers to use the Bible to help people to understand the Good News too.Now look at what Jesus says to His followers in Matthew 28:18–20 (ICB): “ ‘All power in heaven and on earth is given to me. So go and make followers of all people’ ” everywhere. Then Jesus says, “ ‘Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey every-thing that I have told you.’ ” All Jesus’ teachings come from the Bible. He comes in answer to the Bible promises. He does what the Bible says He will do. He obeys His Father exactly as the Bible says He will.
Hanging on the cross, Jesus spoke to his loyal mother and the apostle John who stood nearby. To His mother, he spoke, “Woman, behold your son” and to John, “Behold your mother”. Jesus was unselfishly thinking of his mother and making arrangements for her care even as He died! What unselfishness this displayed!
Even while suffering the anguish of crucifixion itself, Jesus was thinking about the forgiveness of His torturers! “Father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing!” (Lk. 23:34). What amazing unselfishness this is, that Jesus instead of pleading for His deliverance, was pleading with God to make a way of deliver-ance for His persecutors.
Jesus was the most unselfish person who ever lived. All through His ministry we see His will-ingness to care for others and to give to others. But consider the cross as the ultimate display of our Lord’s unselfishness. If there was ever a moment when Jesus had a right to think only about Himself it was on the cross. After all, what evil had he done so as to warrant the hor-rible mistreatment He experienced that day? Would He not have been justified in delivering Himself from the pain of crucifixion? Could He have been criticized for not taking thought of others under such circumstances? Yet in spite of His ability and His right to deliver Himself we see total selflessness on Jesus’ part. Con-sider three examples.
So in these final hours with Jesus before He want to His death, the disciples asked Jesus to teach them clearly what God was like, and even show God to them.
If they look at Jesus, they will see the Father. Note carefully what this means. If God truly has a dark and violent side, and this side never appears during the earthly ministry of Jesus, then Jesus would be lying to say that He reveals the Father to us, for Jesus never revealed the “dark side” of God.
The truth presented in John 5:19 is that Jesus perfectly reveals God to us. Jesus says that He only does what He sees the Father doing. In all of the earthly ministry of Jesus, Jesus did nothing that God was not already doing, and which God would not do. Jesus imitates God and only acts in the manner that God would act.
Though one central theme to the New Testament is that Jesus reveals God to us, the Gospel of John stands out as one of the premier books in the New Testament to reveal this theme. The Gospel of John, more than any other New Testament book, seeks to show that Jesus was God incarnate, and therefore, can be trusted when He invites people ...
The choice is simple. Jesus does not lie; and nor does God. Jesus is telling the truth about the extent of His revelation of God.
I and My Father are one. Not only are actions of Jesus a perfect guide for how God acts, but in John 10:30, Jesus also indicates that He and the Father of one mind and purpose. When Jesus says, “I and my Father are one,” He is not necessarily implying anything about Trinitarian theology (though that is part of it).
Jesus reveals God to this world. It is important to note, however, that when Jesus says this, He is not talking about the physical appearance of God. Since God is “spirit” (John 4:24) He does not have a physical body the way Jesus does.
Jesus is the Messiah offering the messianic banquet prophesied by prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 25:6).
The disciples’ response showed that people thought Jesus was either John the Baptist, Elijah or one of the great prophets of O.T.
In the morning, at Jerusalem's temple, the chief priests, scribes and elders, for the final time, confront and challenge Jesus' authority (Matthew 21:23 - 24:2, Mark 11:27 - 13:2, Luke 20:1 - 21:4). The confrontation lasts from morning to late afternoon.
When told of the request Jesus states his time has come to be glorified (John 12:20 - 27). He asks God the Father to glorify His (the Father's) name.
The Chief Priests, along with the Pharisees, visit Pontius Pilate out of fear that Jesus' disciples will secretly steal his body then claim he has risen from the dead. The religious leaders request that Pilate use his troops to have the tomb secured. Pilate, however, gives them permission to use their own guard for the task. The garden tomb is made secure, the stone at the entrance of the tomb is sealed, and a guard is placed near it (Matthew 27:62 - 66). At sunset the high holy day ends.
Peter then denies him three times (Matthew 26:69 - 75, Mark 14:66 - 72, Luke 22:56 - 62, John 18:17, 25 - 27). At approximately 5 to 6 a.m., because Jewish law demanded two sessions of the Sanhedrin hear and try a defendant, a second trial of Jesus was held around 5 a.m.
The last days in the life of Jesus begin near sunset. His trip to Lazarus' house in Bethany began in Jericho, which is 17 miles (27.3 kilometers) away. In the early evening, after arriving in the home, he has supper (John 12:1 - 2).
Judas, as a signal of which person to arrest, gives Jesus a kiss (Matthew 26:45 - 49, Mark 14:41 - 45, Luke 22:47 - 48, John 18:1 - 8). At approximately 2 a.m. the High Priest questions Jesus about His disciples and teachings but does not receive an answer.
At roughly 9 p.m., while walking to the Garden of Gethsemane (at the foot of the Mount of Olives), Jesus tells the disciples he is the True Vine (John 15:1 - 27). He offers his final words of encouragement (John 16:1 - 31) and again states that the disciples will leave him (John 16:32 - 33).
Jesus’ teaching and deeds, up to this point in time, had given ample proof of His identity as Messiah, as well as of His power. In Luke chapter 5, there was a similar “boat incident” (vv. 1-11), in which the Lord taught from on board, and then commanded the disciples to put out to sea. In that incident, He commanded them to put out their nets. Contrary to nature and to good fishing procedures, they made a great catch. The nets began to tear and the boat began to sink (with fish). Peter responded to the power of the Lord with words which closely parallel those of the disciples after the stilling of the storm.
The boat was being swamped by the waves, which swept over the bow. Jesus, at the rear of the boat, was least affected. The violent up and down motion of the boat was much more pronounced at the bow of the boat and least at the stern. So, too, with the water which swept over the bow.
The Importance of Faith. (1) Faith is fundamental for those who would be followers of Christ. The Lord sought faith in His disciples in this text, and nothing else. The story of the stilling of the storm is the account of our Lord’s looking for faith in His disciples and not finding it.
The account of the stilling of the storm is the first of three miracles recorded by Luke in chapter 8. The stilling of the storm ( Luke 8:22-25) is followed by the healing of the demoniac (8:26-38). The third manifestation of our Lord’s miraculous power is recorded in the account of the raising of Jairus’s daughter, interrupted by the healing of the woman with the issue of blood. All of these precede the sending out of the disciples, to do the very things the Lord has done here:
Faith is fundamental, not only to our text, and to the disciples, but to everyone. It was faith that saved Abraham ( Romans 4 ), as it was faith that sustained all of the heroes of the faith named or alluded to in Hebrews chapter 11. It is faith from which obedience flows ( Romans 16:26 ).
Our Lord’s rebuke of His disciples, regardless of how gentle it may have been, indicates that the disciples were expected to have faith, and were held accountable for failing to have faith. While faith is, in one sense, a gift of God, it is also a gift which may be accepted or refused. Faith involves man’s choice.
After many years of marriage and a number of tense moments, our friends, Don and Maggie, had come to an agreement: Maggie would not interrupt Don’s concentration when he was in the middle of a project. On a number of occasions Maggie had interrupted Don when he was deeply involved in a task, much to his consternation.
