Applicants must have received a four-year bachelor's or equivalent degree before the term they intend to enroll into the program. We anticipate that most successful applicants will have a bachelor's or minor in computer science.
How prestigious is a Computer Science degree from Purdue? Most rankings of departments are based on research or grad programs, not undergraduate programs. That said, Purdue ranks very highly in most such rankings, often making it into the top 20, and #1 in at least one subarea (cyber security).
Some intersection between tracks allows specialization in multiple areas, for example, Systems Programming and Software Engineering. All beginning computer science majors are required to take CS 19100, Freshman Resources Seminar and CS 19300, Tools. These are 1 credit courses that Computer Science students take in their first semester.
I'm currently a second semester CS major at Purdue. So, this answer might be absurdly naive. It's very doable. That's the best way to summarize my experience thus far. Is it challenging? Yes. Is it impossibly difficult? No. That being said, a bit under 60% of incoming CS majors ultimately drop out of the program or have a delayed graduation date.

Most of the successful applicants have major and cumulative GPAs above 3.5/4.0, 8.5/10.0 or 85/100. We take the quality of the institution into consideration. PhD applicants are expected to show potential for independent research. GRE is NOT required.

Each student then selects a Track in which to complete 6 advanced courses. Each Track has 2-4 Required Courses and a list of potential electives. A student may complete more than one Track if desired.
The Department of Computer Science does not accept transfer credit for 300 or 400 level CS coursework (with the exception of pre-approved Study Abroad coursework). No course can be counted both for required and elective credit. (This holds for all tracks).
