Statway II is the second course in the two semester Statway course sequence. The Statway course sequence is recommended for students enrolled in degree programs that require no mathematics beyond freshman-level statistics. Both courses in the course sequence, Statway I and Statway II, must be taken to receive credit for college level statistics.

Explore the solutions for yourself! Statway provides students with the statistical reasoning skills needed for the 21st century.
Since 2011, Foothill has offered students an exciting way to complete a transferable Statistics course in two quarters! The two course sequence, Math 217 followed by Math 17, provide a different approach to how statistics has been traditionally taught.
Important: Students must complete both Statway® courses (MATH 217 AND MATH 17) to get this credit. Completing only the first course results in no degree-applicable units.

Statway® Program. Since 2011, Foothill has offered students an exciting way to complete a transferable Statistics course in two quarters!
Statway® is a 2-quarter sequence designed to take students to and through college level statistics. Students completing the Statway® sequence will understand that data analysis is a process that begins with the formulation of a question that can be addressed with appropriate data, followed by the development of a thoughtful plan for identifying and collecting the necessary data. Students will know how data can be displayed and summarized in informative ways, and they will understand how the data can be used to draw conclusions in the presence of uncertainty. In short, students in the Statway® sequence will learn how to use statistical tools intelligently and to be sophisticated consumers of information from studies whose conclusions are based on real world data.

Statway is an alternative path to satisfying the mathematics admission requirement. It is available to applicants transferring directly from a Washington Community or Technical College (WA CTC) with 40 or more transferable credits at the time of application.

But, you don’t need to take Math 90 or 95 before enrolling for Statway – so talk to your advisor before you register for Math 90. Depending on quarterly offerings, Statway may also be available as a linked 10-credit course – enabling students to complete their entire math requirement in just one quarter.
The entire Statway sequence is required, but only the culminating course in the sequence will transfer to the UW as STAT 136 (see UW Equivalency Guide ). This alternative is not an option for Running Start students.
Statway is a suite of statistical reasoning courses that are designed to teach mathematics skills that are essential for a growing number of occupations and are needed for decision-making under conditions of uncertain ty. Statway includes a set of 1-2 term offerings that are designed to meet a range of developmental and college-level student needs.
Built into the Quantway and Statway curricula and instructional approach are a series of social-emotional routines and interventions that are known as Productive Persistence. Designed to help improve student engagement, learning, and ultimately, success, the activities focus on developing a growth mindset, creating a sense of belonging, and helping students build confidence and implement effective strategies to persist in the course.
Quantway College with Corequisite is designed as a one-term, college-level quantitative reasoning course with targeted supports for students who need them. The course model consists of Quantway College with a corresponding corequisite component that develops quantitative reasoning and algebraic thinking and reasoning skills.
Quantway was designed as a quantitative reasoning pathway for students in non-STEM majors. Should students in this pathway need or desire to take pre-calculus courses, we have designed a set of open source Bridge materials that provide students with the algebraic reasoning skills they need to transition into college-level algebra and/or transfer to a STEM field. These, along with our full sample curriculum materials, are available on our Explorer Site, which you can sign up for here.
The Carnegie Math Pathways course solutions were created and continue to be improved upon by educators for educators and use evidence-based curriculum and pedagogy to engage students in rich learning experiences. They are taught using a unique approach that promotes active, collaborative learning around real-life situations and incorporates embedded social-emotional supports that positively affect student success.
That is, they ensure at registration that students recognize they will be required to complete the second term in order to earn college-level credit. They ensure the second term is offered by the same instructor and at the same time period as the first term. A number of institutions have opted instead to offer a single-term accelerated Pathway, and these institutions have generally achieved even higher student outcomes than with the two-term sequence.
Yes. The courses have been developed to provide educators with much-needed flexibility. We leave it up to you to decide how you would like to use our courseware but have seen several Pathways-implementing institutions looking to create hybrid versions of our course solutions. A common hybrid course format uses the online platform for individual pre- and post-class assignments and utilizes the collaboration sessions as in-class work. More information about how these courses can be used in person is available in our certification course.
Statway provides students with the statistical reasoning skills needed for the 21st century. Going beyond a textbook, Statway course solutions are taught using contextualized, highly relevant curricula and a unique pedagogical approach that combines collaborative learning and social emotional student supports.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that the program saved my education. Statway was hard but there was so much support. I learned that I was fully capable of succeeding in college statistics. Statway did more than speed up my college career – it was the reason I graduated.
