A Course in Miracles (also referred to as ACIM or the Course) is a 1976 book by Helen Schucman. The underlying premise is that the greatest "miracle" is the act of simply gaining a full "awareness of love's presence" in a person's life.

The purpose of time, which is forgiveness, was given by the Holy Spirit in answer to the ego's purpose of time, which is guilt. His emphasis is therefore on the only aspect of time that can extend to the infinite, for now is the closest approximation of eternity that this world offers.

Wonderful. This book arrived in excellent condition, even though it was used. I tried ACIM in the 1980s for a couple of months, sparsely attended a local group, but just wasn't getting it. I started feeling bad about not being to be able to successfully do the later (more demanding) exercises.
The text is 669 pages, with a 488-page workbook for students with a lesson for each day that clarifies the very complex text, a 92-page manuel for teachers, and a 22-page supplement.
A Course In Miracles is a self-study system of spiritual psychology contained in a three-volume book: The Manual For Teachers (M). ACIM is the abbreviation. The Course contains a synthesis of the teachings that lie at the core of the world’s great religions, together with sophisticated psychological insight.

The Course uses a great deal of Christian language, often redefining it in a way that aligns with a God who is more clearly a God of love than the God presented in the Bible.
A Course in Miracles teaches people that for physical and spiritual health, they must accept “proper” attitudes toward themselves, life in general, and the world.
Several themes that it has in common with spiritistic revelations are: (1) spirit dictation to an uninterested or hesitant party; (2) forcing production of the revelations; (3) unbiblical content; and (4) encouraging psychic guidance.
His Center for Attitudinal Healing was founded in 1975 under the direction of an “inner voice,” which instructed him to establish a center where the principles of the Course could be taught and demonstrated. A Course in Miracles has influenced the Christian church as well.
The goal of A Course in Miracles is to remove these blocks to our awareness of God, Happiness and Love through healing our minds.
The Course is written largely in iambic pentameter, also known as Shakespearean blank verse due to Shakespeare’s use of it in his sonnets and plays. This form allows the text to be read in a rhythmic, living quality which is caused by the alternation of stressed and unstressed syllables.
Sri Nisargatta Maharaj. (A classic text on Advaita Vedanta, the non-dualistic sub-school of Vedanta) Like Buddhism, the intent and structure of A Course in Miracles is deeply psychological and psychotherapeutic. An even better word, although not commonly used, would be ‘psychospiritual’.
Everyone has their own path, and A Course in Miracles is not for everybody. Spiritually speaking, it is a challenging but direct path.
A Course in Miracles does not fit neatly into any category in this domain. The mind often tries to understand something new by comparing it to things it already knows. This is helpful to an extent, but let us be careful of trying to fit a square peg in a round role.
We have seen a brief overview of the multifaceted aspect of A Course in Miracles, and it is clear that the Course is unique as a book as it is a spiritual path. It is precisely this multifaceted aspect of the Course, however, which causes it to be prone to misrepresentation and misunderstanding.
The Course is not an easy-read, not meant to be speed-read, and not a book to be read once and left aside. It is a manual for a lifetime’s work on one’s self. It is an unparalleled pathway for ultimate liberation. It compares with the great literary works and the great mystical traditions of the world.
A Course in Miracles is a path of spiritual development that takes the form of an educational course consisting of a Text, a Workbook for Students, and a Manual for Teachers. Its aim is to reeducate our basic perception of reality and teach us to extend this new perception to others, so that we can both give happiness and find happiness.
Once A Course in Miracles was published in 1976, it had a similar effect on readers. They, like Helen, often argued with it, yet at the same time granted it tremendous authority, and many devoted their lives to it. In the time since it was published, the Course has sold nearly three million copies.
This, in fact, is the main meaning of the word “miracle” in the Course: an expression of love that heals the perception of another—which is what love always does. As our love deepens, giving miracles becomes our whole function, our life purpose. “I am the light of the world,” the Workbook has us say.
The Workbook, then, is really a training program in the Course’s system of spiritual practice.
Each of the Course’s three volumes signifies a different phase in this overall process. (The volumes need not be done in order, but they are arranged in a logical sequence that reflects the overall progression the Course seems to expect students to pass through.)
