Students who take general education core, language, and pre-interpreting courses during the Freshman and Sophomore years at UNF may have regular, face-to-face class sessions once or twice a week. The final 48 hours of the B.S. degree do not require students to reside in Jacksonville.
The degree program contains advanced coursework in language development, interpreting and translating skill development, community engagement, and applied ethics. The program uses a combination of hybrid and distance technologies. Students who take general education core, language, and pre-interpreting courses during the Freshman and Sophomore years at UNF may have regular, face-to-face class sessions once or twice a week. The final 48 hours of the B.S. degree do not require students to reside in Jacksonville. Students come to campus one weekend per month during fall and spring semesters. Distance technologies allow students to access direct instruction materials online, and the onsite weekends are used to apply knowledge to authentic simulated settings with Deaf community actors.
The mission of the ASL/English Interpreting Program is to prepare entry-level practitioners who are capable of managing the intercultural demands and complex cognitive tasks for conveying dynamically equivalent messages between American Sign Language and English.

Your registration time ticket indicates the specific date and time you can register for classes via the UNF Registration and Course Planning Tool. Time ticket assignments are generally issued around two weeks before registration begins for the next term.
If you try to register for a course that is full with no seats available in the class, you will receive a Registration Add Error indicating the course is closed. If seats are available, consider adding yourself to the course waitlist.
Students registering for the first time for a given semester during add/drop week will be assessed a Late Registration fee of $100. Any student who late registers after add/drop week will be assessed a Late Registration fee as well.
Students may request to transfer from one course to another beginning after the add/drop period ends for the term and before the Late Registration / Course Transfer deadline noted on the Academic Calendar. Course transfers may be utilized only to transfer to a course with the same number of credit hours as the original course.

In the final lesson, you will learn signs for clothing and hairstyles, such as jacket and long hair. You will learn about classifiers and how to use them with the patterns such as stripes. Then you will learn signs for descriptions such as mustache and beard. You will also explore another important aspect of Deaf culture: teaching hearing babies to sign.
