The Assessments Book is reproducible for a classroom. This series from Saxon is a more recent version of their middle school math. Although Course 1 compares roughly to Math 7 6 and Course 2 compares roughly to Math 8 7, there are significant differences between Course 3 and Algebra 1/2.
It's hard. You have to be able to teach Saxon math, and you have to understand it in order to actually teach it WELL. If you can't do this and the student can't understand it either...Then it's not for you. Any other helpful hints: You don't have to do every single problem unless you need more practice.

Saxon Math 8/7 is on-grade level for 7th grade and for an 8th grader who may need to take it at a slower pace. Algebra 1/2 is often taken by 8th graders. Algebra 1 is often taken by 8th or 9th graders.
Saxon Algebra courses seem to work fine for students who grasp math fairly easily but not so well for those who struggle with the abstract thinking required. Overall, Algebra 1 is fairly easy for students to work through on their own.

Saxon Math 8/7 with Prealgebra is an integrated mathematics program that consists of 120 daily lessons and 12 activity-based Investigations. Students are tested after every fifth lesson, and all tests are cumulative. Concepts are introduced incrementally and are continually practiced throughout the problem sets.
The Saxon Math homeschool program for kindergarten through 3rd grade has a unique format, completely separate from the rest of the Saxon Math Program. The lessons are scripted and designed to be open and go.
Despite being a mastery system, Singapore Math also tends to introduce concepts earlier than Saxon Math. While Saxon maps more or less to grade level, Singapore Math's curriculum is usually a grade level higher than standard, meaning new parents are strongly advised to take its placement tests before starting.
Some schools may offer Algebra I in either 9th/10th grade OR 11th/12th grade, but not both. Nonetheless, it is important that students have access to Algebra I sometime in their high school career.
There are lots of options people use to modify Saxon lessons and still turn out highly capable math students. It's a rigorous curriculum so even those who don't do every single problem are still getting a quality math education! Most people choose an option based on the daily practice sets.
Saxon Geometry is a challenging course. It really draws on higher level thinking skills more than some other courses... another reason why it might better suit students who have already completed Algebra 2. The Solutions Manual provides complete solutions to all textbook problems.
My family has had so much success with Saxon Math! I often recommend it to other homeschool families. It doesn't come with bells and whistles, but it's thorough. Each lesson builds on the last, so that lessons are continually reviewing previous concepts.
