The Advanced Placement (AP) program provides rigorous academic coursework in the major subject fields, with course content designed by a committee of college and high school instructors. Courses are offered in English, social studies, science, world languages, math, fine arts, and in a multi-disciplinary program called AP Capstone. AP courses are open to any student who is interested in academic rigor.
The AP exam is scored on a scale of 1 to 5. Each college sets a required score to transfer credits and/or provide advanced placement, which is generally a 4 or a 5, but may also include a lower score. The information below provides links to the AP transfer policy for four-year Virginia public colleges and universities, as well as Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA).
