I would recommend chem before micro. It will help. You can get by without it, but you may have to work harder to understand some of the chem topics.
You'll be fine taking physiology without taking chemistry first, provided your school will allow you to do so. If that's what you need to do to make your schedule work, go for it. There isn't that much chemistry in pharmacology either, unless you're studying to be a pharmacist.
2. What are the prerequisites? Human Physiology (BIOL 2124): requires the completion of BIOL 1124 AND completion of a college chemistry course with grades of C or better. Human Anatomy (BIOL 2234 or BIOL 2255): requires the completion of BIOL 1124 with a grade of C or better AND at least sophomore standing.
Why chemistry is important to the study of anatomy and physiology may not be obvious if you're just looking at your body as a collection of organs. But all the cells in your organs are composed of chemicals, and chemical reactions are involved in all of your body's movements and cycles.
What biology course should I take, and when? A1: Whatever introductory biology class you decide to take, you should take chemistry now, including lab, in your first year. You can take introductory biology at the same time, although most students wait until their second year.
Biology → Chemistry → Physics Some schools teach earth science during freshman year and then move on to biology and chemistry, whereas others follow the "Physics First" curriculum in which students take physics as freshmen.
If at all possible, don't take them together. Usually a Physiology course depends somewhat on students having taken the Anatomy course first.
Common Coursework Biology Majors Can Expect Students in this major take several foundational biology and chemistry courses. These may include ecology and evolution, genetics, biostatistics, cell structure and function, biochemistry and molecular biology, human anatomy and physiology, and marine biology.
BIO4148 - Human Anatomy and Physiology I (N) (4 hrs.) This course represents the first of an eight (8) credit hour Anatomy and Physiology course and is designed to provide students with a thorough study of the anatomy and physiology of the human body.
Human physiology is another outstanding degree program for those interested in the medical field. Unlike biology courses, human physiology zooms in on the human body and the way it works.
Most schools will not allow you to take Physiology before Anatomy. You really need a solid foundation in Anatomy before taking Physiology. How are you going to understand action potentials in the nervous system, if you're not familiar with the anatomical make-up?
A study of basic chemistry is essential to understanding human physiology because it describes the chemical reactions that underlie all body processes, like movement, digestion, the pumping of your hear, and even your thoughts. Matter occupies space and has mass.
