Bridging courses are short courses which cover assumed knowledge for HSC subjects that are required for some tertiary degrees. If you do not have the assumed knowledge for your course, we strongly recommend that you undertake the relevant bridging courses.

University Of Pretoria Bridging Courses, A UNIVERSITY BRIDGING course does NOT teach you a subject from the start (eg. Core Mathematics or Physical Science from Grade 10 level). You should already have those subjects even if your marks are not up to the required level.
There are minimum entry requirements including a pass in first year biology, physics and chemistry. You must also have proof of maths and English ability from matric results or your first degree. All students in the bridging programme are subjected to the application rules for formal degrees. As space in the Advanced Diplomas is limited, only students who obtain a minimum average of 65% in each of the modules may be considered for further studies at UJ.

PUBLIC universities in South Africa are divided into three types: 1 TRADITIONAL universities, which offer theoretically-oriented university degrees; 2 UNIVERSITIES OF TECHNOLOGY (see below), which offer vocational oriented diplomas and degrees 3 COMPREHENSIVE universities (see below), which offer a combination of both types of qualifications.
This option is the most common where usually an extra year is added to a degree – eg a 3 year degree takes 4 years. You will be required to write a benchmarking test.
Students can set their own pace in the Bridging Program based on when courses are offered. Stage 1 is normally completed within two months. Stage 2 can be completed in as little as four months.
