Today, I got my first offer for a Process Engineering co-op as a 2nd semester junior after applying for hundreds of jobs between my first day as a freshman and now. It almost feels unreal. I never thought that I would make it to this point and often felt discouraged or lost in my career.

I just went through the course descriptions for all my future classes and none of it mention Aspen or any chemical process program, so just wondering if it's my school or will I have to learn it myself.

Internship Work

I am a junior in chemical engineering and I have landed an internship at a small startup company. The company wanted me to find out what other chemical engineers have done at their internships as I am the first intern that this company has hired.

My grandfather, the chemical engineer

My grandfather was shot dead when I was 13 years old. He graduated from the Autonomous National University of Mexico with a master's degree in chemical engineering. He was a professor at a prep school, where he taught chemistry. He then became the director of the the prep school for two terms.

Which is more valuable experience: a mechanical engineering internship in the defense industry, or leading a material science research team?

I have 2 opportunities this summer and I’m not sure which to choose. One is a mechanical engineering internship with a defense company where I will be working on the development of RF weapons/directed energy weapons.
