JUST-IN-TIME SUPPORT COURSES Four two-unit just-in-time support courses have been established to support students in completing a transfer-level mathematics course within the first year of enrollment at San Jose City College.
Appropriate technology: Use appropriate technology to enhance their mathematical thinking, solve mathematical problems, and judge their results' reasonableness. San Jose City College students participate in a national mathematics contest sponsored by the American Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC).
Some sections of Elementary Statistics (Math 63) are coupled with a co-requisite course, Just-in-Time Support for Elementary Statistics (Math 63X). Some sections of Precalculus Algebra (Math 21) are coupled with a co-requisite course, Just-in-Time Support for Precalculus Algebra (Math 21X).
Any San Jose City College student may participate. The San Jose City College team score for a given round consists of the five highest individual student scores for that round, among participating SJCC students who have not yet attained a two-year or higher college degree.
Though Math 55 bore the official title "Honors Advanced Calculus and Linear Algebra," advanced topics in complex analysis, point set topology, group theory, and differential geometry could be covered in depth at the discretion of the instructor, in addition to single and multivariable real analysis as well as abstract ...
After completing Calculus I and II, you may continue to Calculus III, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations.
Pre-calculus must always be preceded by Algebra 3 and Trigonometry OR Honors Algebra 2. Algebra 3 may not be taken after successful completion of Pre-calculus. Algebra 3 – approved for College Credit Statistics can be taken after successful completion of Algebraic Geometry, Geometry or Honors Geometry.
The typical order of math classes in high school is: Geometry. Algebra 2/Trigonometry. Pre-Calculus. Calculus.
Advanced calculus course focusing on vectors, curves and surfaces in 3-dimensional space, differentiation and integration of multivariate functions, line and surface integrals, and, in particular, the theorems of Green, Stokes, and Gauss.
In a poll of 140 past and present calculus students, the overwhelming consensus (72% of pollers) is that Calculus 3 is indeed the hardest Calculus class. This is contrary to the popular belief that Calculus 2 is the hardest Calculus class. So, Calculus 3 is the hardest Calculus class. That question is answered.
Pre-calculus 11 is an advanced credit type high school mathematics course. It is recommended that students have successfully completed Mathematics 11 prior to enrolling in this course. Upon completion of Pre-calculus 11 it is recommended that students proceed to Mathematics 12 or Pre-calculus 12.
The Mathematics Department offers four levels of calculus. Math 115 is a standard first-semester treatment of one-variable calculus including limits, continuity, differentiation and optimization.
Precalculus is a more advanced course than College Algebra. The prerequisite for Precalculus is a grade of C or better in College Algebra or the equivalent. By the equivalent, we mean a grade of B or better in one of the high school courses listed in (1) above.
Algebra IIWhat Math Should an 11th Grader Know? Typically, students in grade 11 take Algebra II (if they followed the traditional course sequence: Algebra I in 9th grade, and Geometry in 10th grade).
The primary strands for an 8th-grade math curriculum are number sense and operations, algebra, geometry, and spatial sense, measurement, and data analysis and probability. While these math strands might surprise you, they are all critical lessons for an 8th-grade math curriculum.
Meanwhile, students in the normal track start Algebra I in ninth grade, and typically take either Geometry or Algebra II in 10th grade, depending on the school district's standards for math education.
In addition to AA and AS degrees, Associate Degrees for Transfer (AA-T and AS-T) are offered for students who intend to complete a bachelor's degree in a similar major at a California State University. For details regarding the Associate in Science in Mathematics for Transfer (AS-T) degree, visit this webpage .
Some sections of Precalculus Algebra (Math 21) are coupled with a co-requisite course, Just-in-Time Support for Pre calculus Algebra (Math 21X). Some sections of College Algebra for Liberal Arts (Math 20) are coupled with a co-requisite course, Just-in-Time Support for Algebra for Liberal Arts (Math 20X).
The San Jose City College Learning Resource Center offers free online and live interactive tutoring via Zoom for all SJCC students in most academic subjects offered by SJCC. For more details, visit this webpage .

The offering of any course described is contingent upon adequate enrollment. Prerequisites and Corequisites. Definitions. “Prerequisite” means a condition of enrollment that a student is required to meet in order to demonstrate current readiness for enrollment in a course or educational program.
Grading: Indicates the type of grading available for that course. For example, Grading: L means the course may be taken for letter grade only. All courses may be offered during the day, evening, and/or weekend sessions. The offering of any course described is contingent upon adequate enrollment.
Alcohol and Drug Studies - Certificate of Achievement Level 2
The prerequisite has not been made reasonably available to the student. The prerequisite has not been established in accordance with the District’s process for establishing prerequisites or corequisites. The prerequisite or corequisite is discriminatory or applied in a discriminatory manner.
Fall semester will be conducted in a combination of formats including on-campus, hybrid, and high-flex, and online.
It is the policy of the District that , unless specifically exempted by statute, every course, course section or class, the average daily attendance of which is to be reported for state aid, wherever offered and maintained by the district, shall be fully open to enrollment and participation by any person who has been admitted to the College (s) and who meets such prerequisites as may be established pursuant to Title V of the California Administrative Code, commencing with Section 58100.
