In the Common App Program Materials section upload course descriptions for all courses for which you are requesting transfer credit. Course descriptions should be copied from your college online course catalog and pasted into a Word document. Please do not upload your entire college course catalog.

The separate Common App for transfer students is a new addition. But since you probably previously filled out the Common App the first time, the structure for the transfer side of things should be quite similar. Having gone through this before, the actual process for competing your transfer application should take less time.
Once they’ve been selected, you can see the deadlines for each institution that you’ve chosen. The transfer deadline for almost every college is the 1st of March, so make sure you start the Common app for transfer students with plenty of time in hand.
The Education section of the Common App is exactly what it sounds like: it’s where you tell your chosen colleges about your high school academic performance. From grades to class rank to what courses you took, colleges will want to get a detailed look at what–and how–you did in high school.
Once you’ve provided the number of courses you’re taking, you’ll enter information for each of these courses so that admissions officers can evaluate your academic course load. As an example, here’s a screenshot from our sample student’s Common App profile.
Essentially, it is a multi-page document that lists the courses taught at a school by discipline, complete with a brief description of each course. In addition to a brief overview of the course, the written description will sometimes include the grade level, prerequisites, course length, amount of credit, etc.

The Common App ID (CAID) is located at the top right corner of each page within your Common App account. If you contact a college to which you're applying through the Common App, it's a good idea to provide your CAID so they can know a bit more about you.

If a program asks for unofficial transcripts, you can upload your transcript in the Colleges Attended section. Some programs may not request unofficial transcripts within the Academic History section. Instead, they may allow you to upload an unofficial transcript in their Program Materials section.
In order to see a program’s recommendation requirements, go to the program’s section in the Program Materials and proceed to the Recommendation tab of that program. (If a program does not require recommendations, you won’t see the Recommendations tab.)
The number of each recommendation type they require and how many they allow — for example, a program might require 2 academic recommendations, but will allow up to 4. To invite recommenders: Select the type of recommendation you'll be requesting.
You can check the testing policy of the programs on your list in the Program Materials section. Employment info, extracurricular activities, and achievements. In the Common App for transfer you have the option to share your experiences, things like research, internships, volunteer work, and more.
Common App for transfer also accepts electronic transcripts from Parchment and National Student Clearinghouse. If your school uses a different service, transcripts should be mailed, instead of sent electronically. Be sure to include your full Common App ID # when entering the Common App mailing address.

I finally decided to upload the course descriptions as a second "transcript" (your option #2) -- a separate file.
Another solution advanced on this board is to combine the one-page transcript and the multi-page course descriptions into one file and upload that as the first transcript. I preferred keeping them separate, however.

When I had this issue with my older son, I sent transcripts directly from the CC he attended to the colleges he applied to. At $10 each, it added up.
You might be wondering whether you’re able to use your old Common App account for your transfer application. Even if you can dig up your old password, you actually have to use a different email address and start the process of filling out the Common App for transfer students afresh.
