Students transferring or readmitted to UNCP may replace grades for courses taken at UNCP for a maximum number of hours as determined by the scale below, which is based on the number of hours accepted for transfer or readmission.
Following an initial suspension of one semester and being readmitted to the University on probation, failure to meet the GPA requirements at the end of the semester will result in a suspension for two semesters. In general, graduate students may enroll in no more than sixteen (16) semester hours during regular semesters (some programs may require students to take fewer hours). Students may complete an Overload Request form to request permission to enroll in additional hours.

However, an I-20 cannot be issued for any admitted student until all valid financial documents have been received. Once you have been accepted into UNCP and financial documents received, the International Programs office will be able to issue you the I-20 or DS-2019 that you will need so that you may apply for your student visa. Once accepted, you will also have full access to the full range of services that the International Programs office offers.

Continuing Students: A continuing student is placed on Academic Probation when his/her cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 or the earned‑to‑attempted pass rate falls below 67% at the end of any term (fall/spring/summer).
A student who wishes to enroll in an Independent Study Course in any department must: (1) meet the requirements established by the department for Independent Study and (2) submit a written Request for Independent Study to the department chair. The Request for Independent Study must include a complete description of the Independent Study Project and a schedule for submission of the Project. The Request must be approved by (1) the professor supervising the Independent Study Project and (2) the department chair. A student may elect to work for one, two, or three semester hours of credit.
Students are eligible for Honors List if they achieve a minimum semester quality point average of 3.2 while passing at least 12 semester hours of course work; none of the 12 hours may be Pass/Fail.
A student's academic standing during any term is determined by the cumulative grade point average ( GPA) earned on the total quality hours. To be in good standing, a cumulative GPA of 2.0 and a 67% or greater earned‑to‑attempted pass rate must be maintained.
