Reviewing a book before completing it isn't a great idea usually, but I completed only 30% of the book and it's just too much fluff. The idea is simple but explanations are redundant. Simon's Ted Talk was great but I don't think it's enough content for a book. He doesn't support his theories with enough evidence.
I wanted to learn more about the "Start with Why" concept. While the book does explain the concept in great detail, it could have been presented with much less text. There are far too many repetitive examples and the content is unnecessarily drawn out. This is one of the poorest written books I have every read.

Your WHY is your purpose, cause or fundamental belief. It's the driving force behind all that you do. Your HOWs are the actions you take when you're at your best, to bring your WHY to life. Your WHATs are the jobs you perform or the products/services you deliver.

But rationale is a weak way of trying to get us to make decisions, probably the weakest of them all. That’s because emotions trump reason every time. When we make a decision based on a strong why, we own it. Only when we know why we do things, will we feel a sense of belonging.

“Start With Why,” a book that has influenced many professionals and entrepreneurs, needs no introduction. It has received accolades from all over the world. By this book, Simon asks you to focus and amplify the things that work.
According to Simon Sinek, questionnaires or focus groups serve little or no purpose because decision-making and the ability to explain those decisions exist in different parts of the brain. It is the reason that a company with no clear sense of WHY fails to create belonging.
Sinek states that it’s not “integrity,” it’s “always do the right thing.”. It’s not “innovation,” it’s “look at the problem from a different angle.”. Many times it happens that you know your WHY, but when it comes to putting into words, you are not able to. The ability to put it into words depends upon a lot of things.
Sinek writes, “Great leaders are those who trust their guts. They are those who understand art before science, and they win hearts before minds. They are the ones who start with WHY.”
Repeat business is when people do business with you multiple times. Loyalty is when people are willing to turn down a better product or a better price to continue doing business with you. Loyal customers often don't even bother to research the competition or entertain other options. Loyalty is not easily won.
In studying the leaders who've had the greatest influence in the world, Simon Sinek discovered that they all think, act, and communicate in the exact same way—and it's the complete opposite of what everyone else does.
