An Honors conversion project should consist of work that enriches and deepens the student's experience of the course material. However, because we recognize that professors and courses are unique, the exact content and format of the Honors conversion project are left up to you and the student to decide together.
An important goal for Honors conversions is to provide increased opportunities for Honors students to interact with faculty members; the guidance, insight, and feedback that professors give to students are vital parts of the conversion experience. Therefore, it is usual for the professor teaching the course to supervise the Honors conversion work.
When you declare an Honors major, you become a member of the LSA Honors Program . This means that you should find an Honors Academic Advisor with whom you can discuss your general college requirements and other concerns ( look at advisors, make an appointment, or call 764-6274).

As the university has a fiduciary responsibility to maintain and report an accounting of class and student enrollment totals to state, federal, and other agencies, the academic transcript is maintained as a complete record of the student’s enrollment activity. Approval by the graduate program is required to change course elections. After the third week in a full term (or the second week in a half term) and until the last day of classes, students must request a late course drop or add via Wolverine Access.
The advisor or graduate chair or director may recommend that a student be placed on academic probation. The decision to place a student on probation must be made by a faculty group of at least three persons to include, for example, the department chair (or the chair’s designee), the graduate chair, and the advisor; the graduate committee of the program; or another committee constituted of faculty. A D.M.A. student who has been placed on academic probation will not be eligible for detached study ( section 2.3.1 ).

The Honors program requires students to take the Honors sections of some movement science core courses, and to complete independent research experiences , culminating in a senior honors thesis. Each requirement is described below.

Students with strong intellectual interests and the commitment to pursue those interests in a rigorous and challenging environment are great candidates for the Movement Science Honors Program. The program offers qualified students advanced coursework and independent research opportunities in exercise physiology, biomechanics, and motor control and development.
Honors independent research study experiences typically involve supervised and directed participation in the laboratory of a movement science faculty member. In many cases, these independent research study experiences assist the student in identifying a research mentor and help lay the groundwork for the senior honors thesis.
First-year movement science students who are interested in joining the Honors Program may apply to be considered. Only those students with a GPA of 3.5 in at least one full semester comprised of content-based, challenging classes will be admitted to the second year level of the Honors Program.
