To completely or partially withdraw from classes at KSU, a student must withdraw online through Owl Express. Students who officially withdraw from courses before the last day to withdraw without academic penalty will receive a grade of “W” and receive no credit.
A student will be placed on academic probation at the end of any semester in which his/her adjusted grade point average Institutional Grade Point Average falls below 2.0. Students may remove themselves from academic probation by raising their Instituional Grade Point Average to at least 2.0.

Withdrawal usually means the course remains on the transcript with a “W” as a grade. It does not affect the student's GPA (grade point average). Although students may be reluctant to have a “W” on their transcript, sometimes “W” stands for Wisdom.
Students may drop classes during the first five (5) days of class. Please note that the eCore calendar may differ from the regular institutional calendar.
The University System of Georgia Board of Regents requires that each eCore course contain at least one proctored experience of significance , and a proctored experience is required for successful completion of an eCore course. In courses requiring only one proctored exam, failure to take that exam will result in a failing grade for the course regardless of the average of other grades. In courses in which the instructor requires two proctored exams, the student may or may not pass the course as long as they take at least one exam, depending on other grades. In other words, the zero received on the missed exam will lower the average grade for the course significantly, perhaps below the passing mark.
Most test sites charge a fee for proctoring exams — generally between $15 and $30.

In order to measure learning outcomes in an objective, verifiable way, instructors will require students to take one or two exams with an authorized test proctor. eCore proctored exams work differently than exams in traditional, on-campus classes because they require you to plan, schedule and pay for the proctor’s time.
Withdrawal Procedure. A student may withdraw from a course with a grade of "W" if the withdrawal is completed by the official midpoint of the semester. The midpoint is listed in each course syllabus. Students who wish to withdraw should do so according to their home institution's withdrawal procedure.
If, for some reason, a student cannot participate in class activities, he or she should contact the instructor immediately. Failure to respond to the initial faculty communication within a week or to complete course activities within the first week will result in a student being reported for non-attendance.
Transfer students, regardless of their classification upon enrolling at Valdosta State University, are also limited to ten withdrawals at Valdosta State University.
Effective Summer 2021, all undergraduate students are limited to ten course withdrawal (“W”) grades for their entire enrollment at Valdosta State University. A student may not accumulate more than 3 course withdrawals in an academic year.
However, a student may not exercise this right to withdraw to avoid sanction for academic dishonesty. Instructors may assign a “W” on the proof roll for students not attending class. It is the responsibility of the student to complete the withdrawal process.
Students will not be allowed to withdraw after the designated withdrawal date as published in the school calendar as required by Board of Regents’ policy; however, students may petition an exception to the Board of Regents’ withdrawal deadline for cases of hardship or medical reasons by completing a Request for Medical or Hardship Withdrawal form available online with the Office of Student Affairs. The petition will become a permanent part of the student’s file. If the petition is approved, the student will be assigned a grade of "W" unless there was a previous sanction for academic dishonesty.
Withdrawal Impacts. A withdrawal can impact a student financially, academically, and otherwise. Students who request to withdraw from a course before the semester’s withdrawal deadline will receive a grade of W, which does not have any impact on a student’s GPA.
There is a short period at the beginning of each new semester during which students are permitted to add and/or drop course (s) without penalty. If the student is within a semester’s Add/Drop period and wants to make changes to their schedule, please use the Add or Drop a Course link under the Nighthawk Course Scheduler in Banner.
After the add/drop period, students may request a withdrawal from a course (s) via Banner under the Nighthawk Course Scheduler. Students will be able to withdraw from one or more courses (at least one course will remain on schedule) or withdraw from all courses (no courses will remain on schedule).
Unofficially withdrawing from the College can result in the student being required to repay all or a portion of the Federal Student Aid received for the term. The student will be responsible for any and all funds due back to the U. S. Department of Education.
A student who withdraws from AMSC after the Midterm will receive a grade of WF.
