You must contact the Admissions Office using the Undergraduate Admission Update form, if you believe you will not be able to meet your Conditions of Admission. Applicants who are not admitted to the M.E.T. Program will be considered for admission to Berkeley Engineering’s major that corresponds to the major applied to. However, admission to these majors is not guaranteed.

Don’t think you can get a passing grade: Especially if you intend to apply to graduate school, your grades and transcripts play an important role in your future. If you feel like you are unable to get a passing grade, dropping the course could be the right route to take.

Having one dropped class on your transcript will almost never have an effect on your chances of getting accepted to colleges.
If it is before the deadline, you can submit a drop through CalCentral the Enrollment block of your Academics tab. If it after the deadline, then you should submit a Summer Late Change of Class Schedule, which can be found on our Forms and Petitions webpage during summers.
Withdrawals on transcripts The withdrawal date will appear on the administrative transcript and all courses for the semester will be removed. The reason for withdrawal is confidential and does not appear on the official transcript.
You must submit a withdrawal form on CalCentral > My Dashboard > Add a Withdrawal Request. Students will be charged a $10 late fee for each class dropped after the end of the second Friday of instruction (11:59 p.m. PST).
Tuition may be refunded if classes are dropped before the refund deadline, but all other fees become non-refundable. The $25 Application Fee for non-UC visiting students is strictly non-refundable even if a student cancels or withdraws from Summer Sessions. Please see our Fees page for the list of fees.
All attempts of a course will show up on your official transcript. You may repeat a course only if you received a grade of D+, D, D-, F, or no pass (NP) in your first attempt of the course. You can only repeat a course one time to replace a grade.
Most colleges will give you specific deadlines to both add and drop classes. When you drop a class before the drop deadline, it's as if it never happened. This means that it won't show up on your transcripts and whatever grade you earned up until that point will disappear from your academic history.

With a GPA of 3.89, UC Berkeley requires you to be near the top of your class, and well above average. You'll need mostly A's, ideally with several AP or IB classes to help show your preparation at a college level. If you're a junior or senior, your GPA is hard to change from this point on.

If you need to drop all of your classes to cancel (before the cancellation deadline) or withdraw (after the cancellation deadline) from Summer Sessions, you will need to submit a Withdrawal Request form which can be found under the “My Dashboard” tab on CalCentral.
Overall, UC Berkeley admitted 14,668 students as freshmen in 2019 and 15,435 for fall 2020. The admit rate remains the same as last year, at 15%.
However, students who would like to request a deferral of enrollment may submit the Request for Deferment form. The Request for Deferment form will be available from May 1 to June 15, 2021. You will receive a response to your request for deferment by July 31, 2021.
